The first case of brain computer interface device human transplantation completed

According to foreign media reports, renowned American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced on the 29th that his brain computer interface technology company, NeuroConnect, conducted the first human transplant of a brain computer interface device on the 28th, and the transplant recipient is currently recovering well. Musk posted on social media platform X, stating that "preliminary results show promising neural spike detection." After conducting hundreds of tests on pigs, sheep, and monkeys in May last year, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the company's human trials of brain chip implants. In September, Neuroconnectivity announced the recruitment of volunteers for its first human trial of implantable wireless brain computer interfaces. Last month, the company stated that it was searching for quadriplegic patients under the age of 40 to participate in human trials. During the experiment, the surgeon will remove a portion of the test patient's skull, and then a robot named R1, which is about 2 meters tall, will take over and implant 64 wires with electrodes into the patient's brain. Electrodes are programmed to collect data related to the brain, including neural activity related to motor intention. Afterwards, the neural signals recorded by the electrodes will be sent back to the "neural connection" computer for decoding. Musk stated in another post that the first product of "neural connectivity" will be called "telepathy.". According to reports, this brain chip has 1000 electrodes and is designed to allow people to think and click through a mechanism to think about what they want to do, thereby performing functions wirelessly. It is currently unclear how many human volunteers have participated in this technology experiment. This wireless brain computer interface experiment aims to evaluate the safety of implants and surgical robots. According to the company's website, this study will evaluate the functionality of brain computer interfaces to enable paralyzed patients to use their thinking to control external devices.
