2023-12-12

On the 11th, Mamadou Mbaye, the representative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WHO) in Congo, stated that the Chinese government provides food aid to Africa, making a huge contribution to maintaining food security in Africa and the world. On that day, Chinese Ambassador to Congo (Brazzaville) Li Yan and Mbaye jointly signed the completion certificate of the Chinese government's food aid project. Mbaye told the media after the signing ceremony that when African countries face difficulties, China always extends a helping hand in a timely manner. China and United Nations agencies have carried out numerous cooperation projects in Africa, making important contributions to maintaining food security in African countries, including Congo (Brazzaville), which has been widely welcomed and sincerely appreciated by the African people. Li Yan stated during his meeting with Mbaye that the global development initiative proposed by Chinese leaders is in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China is willing to further deepen cooperation with United Nations agencies, including the World Food Programme, to contribute more to accelerating Africa's development and improving local people's livelihoods. In July 2021, the Chinese government signed a food aid agreement with the World Food Programme to help the Congolese people affected by the COVID-19 epidemic. In August 2023, the project was successfully completed, benefiting approximately 168000 people. (Lai Xin She)
