According to the Asahi Shimbun on April 5th, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and US President Biden will propose to strengthen cooperation in the joint development and production of defense equipment at the Japan US summit on the 10th. US Deputy Secretary of State Campbell delivered a speech on AUKUS on the 3rd, revealing that "specific measures will be announced for the first time at the summit to deepen cooperation between Japan and the United States in the joint development and production of important defense equipment.". Christopher Johnstone, who previously served as the head of East Asian affairs at the US National Security Council, believes that cooperation in the joint production of air defense missiles and other equipment will become one of the topics of the summit. He expects that the meeting will also announce the establishment of a consultation mechanism for cooperation and policy coordination in the defense industry.
