On the 1st, the first unit of the Qinghai Ma'er Dam Hydropower Station, the highest altitude and largest installed hydropower station under construction in the Yellow River Basin, was successfully connected to the grid for power generation. The Ma'erdu Hydropower Station is located in Lajia Town, Maqin County, Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province. The area has an average elevation of 3300 meters and is equipped with four turbine generators with a single unit capacity of 550 megawatts and one with a single unit capacity of 120 megawatts. As a key energy project of the country and Qinghai Province, this power station is the core project of the first 10 million kilowatt level "water solar energy storage" multi energy complementary clean energy demonstration base built by the National Energy Group in Qinghai. It is also the backbone power source for the implementation of "West East Power Transmission" and "Green Power into Henan" by the country. "The unit that will be connected to the grid for power generation this time is Unit 5 with a single unit capacity of 550 megawatts. In December of this year, all units will be put into operation for power generation," Li Hongxin, Deputy General Manager of Qinghai Margu Company of National Energy Group, told reporters. After the entire unit of the Mardou hydropower station is put into operation, it is expected that the average annual power generation will reach 7.304 billion kilowatt hours, which can meet the electricity demand of 1.825 million households with an annual electricity consumption of 4000 kilowatt hours. It can save about 2.2 million tons of standard coal per year, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 8.16 million tons, and sulfur dioxide emissions by about 30400 tons. The Mardun Hydropower Station is located in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, in the Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve of Qinghai Province, and is a typical high-altitude and high-altitude area. "The winter here lasts for 6 months, with the lowest air temperature reaching minus 30 degrees Celsius, and the oxygen content is less than 60% of that in plain areas. During the project construction process, we overcame many challenges such as high cold and hypoxia, and winter construction difficulties. While completing the first unit's grid connected power generation with high quality and on schedule, we also provided valuable construction experience and technical achievements for water conservancy projects in similar regions of China." Li Hongxin said. During the project construction process, relevant technical personnel vigorously carried out winter construction technology innovation, and transformed the originally designed 4-month winter rest period into a construction period through methods such as "threading clothes" for water supply and drainage pipes, "setting up sheds" and "baking ovens" for work surfaces, and "covering concrete with blankets", effectively improving the quality and progress of winter concrete construction. The project also attaches great importance to ecological protection and has specially constructed fish breeding and releasing stations. "Last September, we carried out the first precious fish breeding and release activity in the upper reaches of the Yellow River, releasing a total of 60000 fry of the catfish plateau loach and the Yellow River naked croaker, effectively reducing the impact of the project on aquatic biological resources." Deng Junwen, the person in charge of the fish breeding and release station at the Mar Dam Hydropower Station, introduced. Li Hongxin stated that in the future, the National Energy Group will rely on the Marduan Hydropower Station and leverage the advantages of the surrounding areas in integrating water, wind, and solar energy into one. Through the development of multiple complementary energy sources, various types of renewable energy will be allocated with a capacity of 31.12 million kilowatts, and efforts will be made to build the Marduan "water, wind, and solar energy storage" ten million kilowatt level fully clean energy integrated base.
