On the 17th, the Secretary for Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Ning Hanhao, stated that the government's determination to promote the Jiaoyi Island artificial island project remains unchanged. It will strive to initiate land reclamation projects during the current term of the government, with the goal of starting the statutory environmental impact assessment process for land reclamation projects and gradually carrying out detailed engineering designs this year. Ning Hanhao mentioned that the SAR government has previously stated that due to the current economic and financial situation, the construction of the Jiaoyi Island artificial island project will be slightly postponed, but the determination to promote the project remains unchanged. The SAR government is committed to conducting a thorough environmental impact assessment on land reclamation projects. It is expected that the detailed design of the reclamation projects will be completed in stages starting from 2026, and efforts will be made to initiate the reclamation projects during the current term of the SAR government. The "Large scale Development Project Financing Committee" led by the Financial Secretary of the Special Administrative Region Government will continue to explore specific financial arrangements for large-scale land and transportation infrastructure projects, including the Northern Metropolitan Area and Jiaoyi Island, and make arrangements for investment and human and material resource allocation in the project. Jiaoyi Island is located in a strategic location between Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and Lantau Island, only about 4 kilometers west of Hong Kong Island and about 15 kilometers from Hong Kong International Airport.
