On April 17th, at the macroeconomic situation and policy press conference held by the State Council Information Office, the National Development and Reform Commission responded to multiple hot topics. Liu Sushe, Deputy Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, introduced that in the first quarter, the economic operation continued to rebound and showed a positive trend. The economic growth rate exceeded expectations, the economic structure continued to optimize, quality and efficiency improved, employment prices remained basically stable, market expectations improved overall, and the overall social situation remained stable. The economic and social development achieved a good start. Looking ahead to the whole year, Jin Xiandong, Director of the Policy Research Office of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated that stabilizing employment and promoting income growth will effectively improve the consumption capacity of residents. We will deepen the implementation of the employment priority policy, organize a three-year action plan to promote youth employment, increase support for returning to rural areas for entrepreneurship, and do everything possible to stabilize and promote employment. At the same time, we will improve the mechanism for adjusting the minimum wage standard, promote the reasonable and stable growth of residents' wage income, and increase the property income of urban and rural residents through multiple channels. In addition, expanding demand and optimizing supply, and continuously creating new growth points for consumption. Encourage the cultivation and creation of new consumer scenarios and formats guided by market demand and consumer demand. Support the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, actively cultivate new consumption hotspots such as smart homes, entertainment and tourism, sports events, and domestic trendy products. At the same time, cooperate with relevant departments to actively carry out the work of exchanging old for new consumer goods. Pay attention to rights and protect the bottom line, and strive to create a trustworthy consumption environment. "Having too many exported goods is equivalent to overcapacity," Jin Xiandong responded to the current international concern about production capacity at the press conference. "Some parties link production capacity issues to international trade and believe that having too many exported goods is equivalent to overcapacity, which is untenable. China imports a large number of products such as chips, airplanes, soybeans, crude oil, etc. every year. So, are all the exporting countries of these goods having overcapacity?" He pointed out that when it comes to production capacity, we should start from economic laws, objectively and dialectically view it. Under market economy conditions, supply-demand balance is relative and imbalance is common. Moderate production exceeding demand is conducive to market competition and survival of the fittest, and this phenomenon is widespread. He also stated that in the context of economic globalization, both supply and demand are global. Different countries have higher production capacity in their respective strong industries and lower production capacity in other industries, which is determined by their comparative advantages. Only by strengthening cooperation can we achieve common development. We will spare no effort to solve the urgent and difficult problems faced by private enterprises. According to Yuan Da, Deputy Secretary General of the National Development and Reform Commission and Director of the Comprehensive Department of the National Economy, in the first quarter of this year, the development of the private economy achieved a good start, and the indicators in key areas showed a positive trend. Firstly, the growth rate of industrial production has accelerated. Secondly, the potential for private investment continues to be unleashed. Thirdly, the foreign trade growth rate of private enterprises is significantly faster than the overall level. "We also see that the development of private enterprises still faces some difficulties, bottlenecks, and pain points. The National Development and Reform Commission, together with relevant parties, is making every effort to promote and solve the urgent and difficult problems faced by private enterprises." Yuan Da said that as of the end of March this year, the National Development and Reform Commission has passed various measures to address these issues
