On March 28th, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Benin's Foreign Minister Bakari in Beijing, met with the newly appointed Director of the Arab League's Representative Office in China, Fahmi, and accepted his letter of appointment. During the meeting with Bakari, Wang Yi expressed that China attaches great importance to the relationship between the two countries and is willing to use the important consensus of the two heads of state as a guide to promote greater development of the bilateral relationship. Both sides should vigorously expand practical cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, energy, culture, and human resources, and welcome Benin's active participation in implementing global development initiatives. Bakari stated that the Belgian side is willing to work together with China to promote greater development of bilateral relations and jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries. During the meeting with Fahmi, Wang Yi expressed his welcome to Fahmi's new appointment in China. He said that the current China Arab relations are at their best in history. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China Arab Cooperation Forum, and the 10th ministerial meeting of the forum will be held in China. Both sides should take this opportunity to make plans for the construction of a community with a shared future between China and Arab countries and strengthen coordination on issues of common concern. Fahmi said that the Arab side highly appreciates China's adherence to a just stance on the Palestinian issue and its strong support for Arab countries. I am deeply honored to be appointed as the Director of the Representative Office in China and will do my best to promote the development of Arab China relations. (Lai Xin She)
