How to save oneself by falling into an ice hole? Remember these five points

2024-01-18

Recently, fire departments in various districts of Beijing have organized ice rescue drills based on the water environment and characteristics of ice entertainment activities in their respective jurisdictions, in order to enhance the ability of fire rescue personnel to deal with sudden accidents such as falling ice and water. "Someone rashly put on ice, and the ice suddenly broke and fell into the water!" At Yanqi Lake, two fire rescue stations in Huairou District, Yanqi and International Conference, conducted ice rescue drills to rescue the "drowning person". After assessing the on-site environment, the firefighting and rescue personnel selected the ground support point, and the assault team wore full body harnesses to protect themselves, crawling close to the "drowning person". After approaching the "drowning person", firefighting and rescue personnel throw out lifebuoys to prevent them from drowning in the water. Then, they use their protective devices to provide sling protection for the "drowning person", and other personnel on the shore slowly pull the "drowning person" to the shore. The fire rescue personnel in Miyun District also simulated the police situation of "people falling into an ice cave", with a firefighter jumping into the ice cave to play the role of "trapped people". In the practical exercise, firefighting and rescue personnel used equipment such as banana boats, rescue floats, and two pull ladders to carry out rescue operations, and provided comprehensive and detailed explanations of each rescue process and precautions to ensure that each trainee can correctly master ice rescue techniques. The Special Service Detachment, Fengtai District Fire Rescue Detachment, and Daxing District Fire Rescue Detachment jointly conducted ice rescue training in Niantan Park. During this period, firefighting and rescue personnel conducted training in five subjects: ice detection, anchor point setting, ice rescue with life rafts, telescopic pole rescue, and floating rescue stretcher rescue, further standardizing the division of responsibilities of rescue teams and ice rescue disposal procedures. ■ Reminder on how to self rescue when falling into ice or water. If you find that the ice surface has ruptured, lie down on the ice surface as soon as possible to increase your body's area on the ice, thereby dispersing the pressure on the ice surface. Observe which areas around you have thicker ice surface, crawl forward or roll your body out of the danger area, and never walk upright. Once accidentally falling into the water, how should one save themselves? Firstly, do not panic, remain calm, call for help loudly as soon as possible, and strive for help from others. Secondly, step on the water with your feet to raise your body and keep your head above the water surface. At the same time, do not throw or hit randomly, as this will cause the ice surface to rupture and increase. Thirdly, observe calmly and search for points with thicker ice and smaller cracks to escape danger. When approaching the edge of the ice, place your hands on the ice and your feet in the water to gain forward propulsion. Fourthly, lie down in a prone position, extend your arms forward to increase the area of contact with the ice surface, crawl slowly, and gradually move your body away from the ice cave. Fifthly, when leaving the entrance of the ice cave, do not stand immediately. Lie prone on the ice surface and use a rolling crawling method to reach the shore before landing to prevent the ice surface from breaking again. (Lixin News Agency) (Reporter Zhang Yu)
