At the Discipline Development Conference of the National Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Center held on February 23, Tong Xiaolin, an academician of the CAS Member and chairman of the expert committee of the National Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Center, said in an interview with the media that the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine can establish a unique position in the international medical field and has a very broad prospect, especially in dealing with complex diseases such as tumors, cardio cerebrovascular diseases and improving the diagnosis and treatment effect. Tong Xiaolin gave the reporter an example that traditional Chinese medicine can play a very good role in both preoperative and postoperative lung transplantation surgery, especially in allowing patients to quickly ventilate and defecate after surgery, which can help them recover their physical strength earlier and accelerate the recovery process. In his view, traditional Chinese medicine carries the wisdom of Chinese doctors for thousands of years, while Western medicine has a history of nearly two hundred years. Compared with the two, the "70 plus year old" model of combining Chinese and Western medicine has shown greater advantages in some advantageous clinical disciplines than pure traditional Chinese medicine and pure Western medicine. However, it still belongs to an emerging discipline and faces three core propositions: first, it needs to build a theoretical system that connects Chinese and Western medicine; second, it needs to establish internationally recognized efficacy evaluation standards; third, it needs to cultivate composite talents with a global perspective. The whole industry should promote the development of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine from four aspects: strengthening top-level design, focusing on original innovation, deepening educational reform, and strengthening demonstration and guidance Tong Xiaolin said. It is reported that in March 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Health Commission, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine jointly issued a reserve of pilot projects and a list of pilot units for the construction of "flagship" hospitals for the collaboration of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. The construction of "flagship" hospitals for the collaboration of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine was officially launched to promote the strong alliance and complementary advantages of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, and to build the "flagship" hospitals for the collaboration of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine into national centers for the diagnosis and treatment of major difficult diseases and the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, talent team training centers, and medical model promotion centers. They will play a leading role in the demonstration of the. Currently, 62 hospitals have been included in the list of "flagship" hospitals for the collaboration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, including leading comprehensive hospitals in Western medicine such as Peking Union Medical College, Xiangya Hospital, and Huaxi Hospital. Yu Yanhong, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stated at the previous work experience exchange meeting on the pilot project of the construction of the "flagship" hospital for Chinese and Western medicine collaboration that the construction of the "flagship" hospital for Chinese and Western medicine collaboration has achieved significant results, driving the integration of Chinese and Western medicine to a new level. In the future, the flagship hospital of the collaboration between traditional Chinese and Western medicine should focus on improving clinical efficacy, strengthening talent cultivation, innovating development mechanisms, forming a number of typical experiences and practices, and solidifying and transforming them into long-term mechanisms to better promote the work of traditional Chinese medicine in national comprehensive hospitals and the high-quality development of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospitals.
