Can diester oil treat diseases? Please use edible oil correctly

2024-09-02

Recently, some entertainment and commercial platforms have appeared advertisements for edible diester oil, making it a star product. Many companies have launched diester oil. Some companies claim that compared to regular cooking oil, glycerol diester cooking oil (referred to as diester oil) is healthier, and even claims that it can help with weight loss, blood sugar reduction, and blood lipid lowering. What is diester oil? Is it vegetable oil or animal oil? Or is it 'technology and hard work'? What are the components of diesters? Is it a new discovery or high-tech? What is diester oil? Diacyl ester oil (DAG), also known as glycerol diester edible oil, is a special type of edible oil. According to a notice released by the National Health Commission on August 3, 2021, the production process of DAG uses soybean oil, rapeseed oil, and other raw materials, with lipase preparations, water, glycerol, and other main auxiliary materials. It is made through lipase catalysis, distillation separation, decolorization, deodorization, and other processes. Its main characteristic is that the content of diglycerides is over 40%. In the edible oils commonly consumed in daily life, the content of triglycerides (TAG) is higher. Diethyl ester oil is not only available in recent years, but has been approved for use by various countries for a long time. Only in recent years have merchants started marketing. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) included diglyceride oil in the "Generally Recognized as Safe Substances" (GRAS) list in 2000, and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) passed the safety certification for diglyceride oil in 2005. In China, the former Ministry of Health approved diglyceride oil as a new food ingredient in 2009, and the National Health Commission revised the quality requirements for diglyceride oil in 2021, clarifying its production process and content standards for diglycerides. Can diester oil reduce weight, blood sugar, and blood lipids? Many businesses claim that diester oil can help with weight loss, blood sugar reduction, and blood lipid lowering during promotion. Is diester oil really that good? How does it achieve these health functions? The main component of ordinary edible oil is triglycerides, which are enzymatically hydrolyzed in the small intestine into 2-methyl-glycerides (MG) and free fatty acids (FA), and then re synthesized into triglycerides in the intestinal epithelial cells, which may accumulate as body fat. In contrast, the diglycerides in diester oil, due to their molecular structure connecting only two fatty acid molecules, cannot form triglyceride structures and enter the bloodstream after digestion and absorption. Therefore, they do not accumulate fat in the body, but instead supply energy through mitochondrial metabolism, which helps reduce body fat and visceral fat. So, many people say that diester oil has weight loss, blood lipid lowering and other effects. However, there is still insufficient scientific evidence regarding the health benefits of diester oil, such as lowering blood lipids and losing weight. There have been many studies on the effects of diester oil on blood lipids and weight, but there are many companies with vested interests behind the research. This greatly undermines the credibility of research results related to weight loss, blood sugar reduction, and blood lipid reduction using diester oil. Many businesses often mention in their promotions that "the US FDA, EU Food Safety Authority EFSA, Australia New Zealand Food Standards Agency FSANZ, and Chinese authorities have all approved diester oil", leading people to believe that the benefits of diester oil are all certified. There is a big logical trap here. In fact, the above-mentioned official institutions have only evaluated the safety of diester oil and do not assess its health functions - the evaluation results suggest that diester oil can be eaten and used, but these institutions have not certified that diester oil has weight loss, blood lipid lowering and other functions. At present, these institutions have not approved any health claims related to diester oil, and have even rejected health claims about weight loss. You should know that diester oil is also oil, it's just that there are more diglycerides, above 40%, but there are still triglycerides. Eating more is also energy accumulation and can lead to weight gain. Proper use of edible oil: 1. Eating less oil is key. At present, the average daily fat to energy ratio of Chinese residents is 34.6%, which exceeds the recommended range of 20% to 30% for fat to energy ratio. Among them, the average daily intake of cooking oil per person is 43.2g, greatly exceeding the recommended 25-30g. So, the top priority now is to eat less oil. Controlling the amount of oil used in home kitchens, canteens, and restaurants is crucial for oil control and reduction. That's why the theme of this year's National Nutrition Week and "5.20" Chinese Student Nutrition Day is "Adding Nutrients to Dairy Beans, Healthier with Less Oil". Oil reduction comes first. It is recommended that everyone eat no more than 25-30 grams of oil per day, regardless of the type of oil. 2. Make rational purchases and act within your means. Compared to regular edible oil, the price of diester oil is currently relatively high. The price of ordinary 500ml peanut oil is only 20 yuan, while the price of diester oil of the same specification is as low as over 100 yuan, and the higher the content of glycerol diester, the higher the price.
