2024-07-08

In order to further meet the needs of the people for convenient medical services, the Beijing Municipal Medical Security Bureau introduced at a press conference on the 1st that Beijing has made new progress and breakthroughs in promoting the pilot work of online payment for over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. Starting from July 1st, insured individuals in Beijing can purchase drugs from 300 designated retail pharmacies using their personal medical insurance accounts on online platforms such as JD.com and Meituan. When insured individuals use their personal medical insurance account to purchase medication online, the medication cost is paid by the personal medical insurance account, and the delivery and packaging fees are paid by the individual. After placing an order online, the medication platform immediately delivers the medication. Online medication purchase also supports the use of medical insurance personal accounts among registered family members in Beijing. At present, 300 designated retail pharmacies can cover 16 administrative regions and economic development zones in Beijing. Online drug purchases only support the purchase of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. For prescription drugs issued by hospitals, insured individuals can make payments online through their mobile phones at hospitals that have activated medical insurance mobile payments. Multiple platform leaders have introduced that by connecting to online pharmacies, increasing transportation capacity, and enriching delivery methods, the service scope has been continuously expanded to ensure delivery efficiency. The service coverage has expanded from the initial area within the Fifth Ring Road of Beijing to all administrative regions of Beijing. Next, the Beijing Municipal Medical Security Bureau will continue to promote the work related to online drug purchase and medical insurance payment in Beijing, continuously increasing the number of OTC drug online payment designated retail pharmacies. At the same time, it will also continue to strengthen the supervision of the use of medical insurance funds in designated retail pharmacies, carry out monitoring of drug prices in pharmacies, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of medical insurance funds.
