The Global Society for Mobile Communications Systems (GSMA) released the "China Mobile Economy 2024" report in Beijing on the 26th. The report states that the current number of 5G mobile connections in China has exceeded 800 million, and the total number of 5G connections will further climb to over 1 billion by the end of the year. The report states that due to rapid network deployment and a mature terminal ecosystem, the growth rate of 5G penetration in China is faster than expected. At present, the number of 5G mobile connections in China has exceeded 800 million. In 2024, the proportion of 5G connections is expected to increase from 45% to over 50%, becoming China's leading mobile technology. The total number of 5G connections will further climb to over 1 billion by the end of the year. The increasingly mature 5G market in China has brought wider connectivity and greater economic value. The report predicts that by 2030, the contribution of 5G to China's GDP is expected to reach nearly 260 billion US dollars, accounting for approximately 23% of the overall annual contribution of the mobile industry to the Chinese economy. In addition, by 2030, China's 5G connectivity will account for nearly one-third of the total global 5G connectivity, and China's 5G penetration rate will approach 90%, becoming one of the world's leading markets. The report suggests that the entire mobile ecosystem currently provides nearly 8 million jobs to China, with an annual tax contribution of $110 billion, of which operator revenue reached $225 billion in 2023. By the end of 2030, the annual contribution of China's mobile industry to the overall economy is expected to exceed $1 trillion. GSMA President Mats Granryd stated that as China's 5G connectivity surpasses the 1 billion mark this year, it is expected that areas such as 5G Advanced (the evolution and enhancement of 5G networks), 5G new calls, and 5G RedCap (5G lightweight technology) will further unleash their potential and attract more investment, thereby continuously improving user experience and unlocking new sources of revenue for operators.
