The theme of this summit forum is "Cross cultural Era", gathering over 20 heavyweight guests from 12 countries and regions to share and exchange ideas on hot topics related to the future development of cultural areas and museums. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, stating that the national "14th Five Year Plan" supports the development of Hong Kong as a center for cultural and artistic exchanges between China and foreign countries. The SAR government is fully committed to promoting Hong Kong's development as a cultural hub. The various international cooperation facilitated by this summit will enrich Hong Kong's cultural landscape and provide rare opportunities for Hong Kong's art troupes, artists, and youth to broaden their creative horizons. This summit forum is hosted by the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority of Hong Kong and is the largest international cultural summit in Hong Kong's history. The summit forum marks the beginning of the 2024 Hong Kong Art Week, with major events such as the Basel Art Exhibition Hong Kong Exhibition and Art Central taking place during the week. Tang Yingnian, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, delivered a speech expressing the hope that overseas participants can gain a deeper understanding of Hong Kong's potential as a hub for art, culture, and creative industries, as well as the growing influence of the West Kowloon Cultural District as a "cultural and commercial hub" on the international stage, by experiencing the vibrant cultural and artistic atmosphere of Hong Kong firsthand. Wang Xudong, the director of the Palace Museum, who delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the Minister of Culture and Tourism of China, Sun Yeli, expressed his belief that the holding of this forum will not only inject new impetus into the development of Hong Kong's cultural industry, but also promote the integration and development of Hong Kong's culture and tourism at a wider, deeper, and higher level. In the future, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will continue to fully support Hong Kong in further leveraging its strengths, showcasing the achievements of Chinese cultural construction, and deeply participating in world civilization exchanges and mutual learning. Recently, the West Kowloon Cultural District Management Bureau signed a letter of intent to cooperate with 21 top art and cultural institutions worldwide. These cultural and artistic institutions come from 11 countries and regions including France, Japan, South Korea, and Qatar. They will collaborate with the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Contemporary International Visual Culture Museum M+, and the Performing Arts Department within the West Kowloon Cultural District in various aspects, including joint production and arrangement of touring exhibitions, collection sharing, restoration of artworks and cultural relics, digitization, and scientific research.
