"Complete ahead of schedule" can be praised, "complete on time" should not be criticized

Not long ago, Corporal Yang Demu and the Second Class soldiers jointly won the first place in the military assessment of the entire battalion. This is Yang Demu's first good result after successfully selecting a Jinshi. Speaking of Yang Demu's selection of Jin soldiers, there was a small incident that had a great impact on me. On a Monday last month, the government issued a notice requiring each company to conduct a thorough investigation of the willingness of soldiers to be selected and promoted as soldiers, and to report a list of personnel willing to stay in the unit. Prior to this, we had conducted a situation investigation and each class had reported a list of personnel. After receiving the new notice, I immediately talked to these soldiers to understand their willingness to stay in the team. At the end of the conversation, I reminded them to submit their application for staying with the team before the weekend vacation. During the conversation, Yang Demu expressed a strong desire to stay in the team. He has excellent qualities in all aspects, and his training results are very good. He patted his chest and assured me that he would definitely excel in the selection and assessment of sergeants. The conversation only ended in the morning, and during lunch break, several comrades approached me one after another to submit their personal application for staying in the team. I am very pleased with everyone's positive attitude. Upon closer inspection, I found that all the soldiers who had spoken had submitted their application forms for staying in the team, except for Yang Demu's name. With doubts in mind, I arrived at Yang Demu's dormitory. At this glance, I immediately became angry. Others would rather sacrifice their lunch break than rush to write a stay in team application, but he is sleeping in bed. However, in order not to disturb the rest of other soldiers, I woke him up and pulled him outside. "You want to stay in the team, is that your attitude? Everyone else has submitted the application for staying in the team. Where did you go with the energy you promised me by patting your chest in the morning?" "Instructor, I came back from night training last night and immediately stood on another patrol. I felt tired and sleepy after lunch today, and planned to squint for a while before writing. Unexpectedly, I fell asleep." Yang Demu, who was originally sleepy, saw me so angry and suddenly woke up, quickly explaining. At this moment, the instructor went to the platoon to inspect shops. Seeing this situation, he called us to the camp to understand the situation: "Why interfere with the soldiers' lunch break?" After understanding the situation, the instructor criticized me. "The starting point of hoping that soldiers can submit their application forms to the retention team as soon as possible is good, but if you violate your own requirements, it is not right." The instructor said that if the deadline for submitting the application forms to the retention team is before the weekend vacation, then this rule should be followed. So, regardless of the reason, Yang Demu should not be criticized for not submitting his application to stay with the team during his lunch break. The instructor's words are reasonable. His words also made me reflect on my past shortcomings in work. I am indeed accustomed to praising behaviors such as gathering and standing in line early, submitting my phone early during break time, and attending educational classes early. Comrades who complete tasks on time are sometimes criticized by me. But in fact, "completing on time" is only slightly later than "completing ahead of schedule" and does not violate regulations. If criticized for this, it really shouldn't be. The instructor also told me that as a chief official, constantly breaking the "rules" set by oneself is actually undermining the credibility of a chief official. If I want everyone to complete work tasks earlier and faster, then it should be planned and explained clearly from the beginning, rather than just talking
