On the 29th, the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Russia, Pamfilova, announced at a press conference that Russian President Putin has been officially registered as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election. The Secretary of the Central Election Commission of Russia, Budarina, said at a press conference that out of approximately 315000 signatures submitted by supporters at Putin's campaign headquarters, the Central Election Commission randomly selected 60000 signatures for verification. The results showed that 91 signatures were invalid and met the relevant regulations for registering as presidential candidates. Previously, the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, Slutsky, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Harritonov, and the New Party of Russia, Davankov, were also officially registered as candidates for the 2024 presidential election by the Central Election Commission. According to the Russian election law, presidential candidates can participate in two ways: political party nomination and self recommendation. Political parties elect candidates at their respective congresses; Independent candidates must convene an advocacy group of no less than 500 people and collect signatures from at least 300000 supporters. Pamfilova announced in December last year that the voting for the 2024 Russian presidential election would be held from March 15th to 17th. (Lai Xin She)
