Release of the White Paper on the New Generation of Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure

2024-01-04

On the 2nd, it was learned that the Cloud Computing and Big Data Research Institute of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the China Intelligent Computing Industry Alliance, the Artificial Intelligence Computing Industry Ecological Alliance, and other institutions have jointly released the "White Paper on the New Generation of Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure" (hereinafter referred to as the "White Paper"). The White Paper clarifies the definition, characteristics, and value of "next-generation AI (Artificial Intelligence) infrastructure" and proposes for the first time a "next-generation AI infrastructure evaluation system". Data shows that in the past four years, the number of large model parameters has grown at a compound annual rate of 400%, and the demand for AI computing power has increased by more than 150000 times. The traditional computing infrastructure centered around the CPU (central processing unit) is no longer able to meet the new requirements of large models and generative AI. The White Paper clarifies the definition of the new generation of AI infrastructure: with the output of large model capabilities as the core platform, integrating computing resources, data services, and cloud services, specifically designed to maximize the performance of large models and generative AI applications. The White Paper proposes for the first time a "new generation AI infrastructure evaluation system", which comprehensively evaluates the comprehensive capabilities of AI infrastructure manufacturers qualitatively and quantitatively through 12 evaluation indicators in three dimensions: product technology, strategic vision, and market ecology. The White Paper also mentioned that the construction of the new generation of AI infrastructure will lower the threshold for large model development and application, and create greater social value in government and enterprise services, industry, and scientific research innovation.
