The release of a new generation of domestically produced CPUs independently developed in China

2023-11-29

The CPU is the core of computer computation and control, commanding the operation of various components like the human brain. On November 28th, China's independently developed new generation general-purpose CPU - Loongson 3A6000 was officially released in Beijing. Shi Huikang, Deputy Director of the Electronic Information Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that this marks a new height in the degree of independent controllability and product performance of domestic CPUs, and also proves that China has the ability to make first-class products in self-developed CPU architectures. The newly released Loongson 3A6000 adopts a self-designed instruction system and architecture in China, without relying on foreign authorized technology. It is a new generation of general-purpose processor independently developed and controllable in China, capable of running multiple types of cross platform applications and meeting various large and complex desktop application scenarios. The picture shows the new generation of general-purpose CPU independently developed in China - Loongson 3A6000. Generally speaking, there are two main paths to improving CPU performance: increasing the main frequency and optimizing kernel design. The performance improvement of Longxin 3A6000 is mainly achieved through design optimization. Its main frequency reaches 2.5GHz, integrates four newly developed high-performance LA664 processor cores, supports simultaneous multithreading technology, and has a total of 8 logic cores on the entire chip. Compared with the previous generation of Loongson 3A5000, the single threaded general-purpose processing performance has improved by 60%, and the multi process general-purpose processor performance has improved by 100%. The test results from the Saixi Laboratory of China Electronics Technology Standardization Research Institute show that the overall performance of the Loongson 3A6000 processor is comparable to Intel's 10th generation Core quad core processor, which was launched in 2020. The autonomous controllability of Longxin 3A6000 is second to none among domestic general-purpose CPUs. Based on the completely self-designed instruction system architecture, Loongson not only launched its own self-developed CPU core, but also integrated GPU core, encryption IP, high-speed transmission interface IP, storage interface IP, audio and video interface IP, UART and other interface IPs, as well as various specifications of register heap and other hard core IPs. "The fundamental way out for China's information industry lies in building an independent ecosystem independent of the X86 and ARM systems," said Hu Weiwu, Chairman of Longxin Zhongke and Researcher at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. After years of accumulation, Longxin Zhongke has solidified its foundation in the independent information industry through chip research and development based on independent IP and software ecology based on independent instruction systems. The Dragon Architecture, which has the characteristics of complete autonomy, advanced technology, and compatibility with the ecosystem, has currently established a Linux basic software system on par with X86 and ARM, and has received support from major international software open source communities related to instruction systems. It has also received support from domestic operating systems such as UniTrust, Qilin, Euler, Longlong, and Kaiyuan Hongmeng, as well as basic applications such as WPS, WeChat, QQ, DingTalk, and Tencent Meeting.
