Over 180 million private economic entities in China account for 96.4% of all operating entities

The State Administration for Market Regulation recently released data showing that as of the end of May this year, the total number of private economic entities in China reached 180.45 million, accounting for 96.4% of all operating entities, up from 95.5% in 2019. Among them, there were 55.177 million private enterprises and 12.5273 million individual industrial and commercial households. The proportion of private economic operators in high-tech industries is steadily increasing. From the perspective of industry distribution, the proportion of private economic operators in high-tech industries such as manufacturing, scientific research, and technology services, which are key national development areas, has increased from 95.9% and 91.9% in 2019 to 96.1% and 94.4% in May this year. The development situation of private economy related to public services is improving. Compared with 2019, in May this year, the proportion of electricity, heat, gas, water production and supply industries increased from 66.4% to 67.1%, while the proportion of transportation, warehousing, and postal industries increased from 95.89% to 97.2%.
