The report shows that China's 5G industrial application has penetrated into the core control links of production

Industry is the main battlefield for 5G applications. Recently, the Research Report on 5G and Industrial Automation Integration Application (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") jointly released by China Industrial Internet Research Institute and Siemens (China) Co., Ltd. shows that China's 5G industrial applications have gradually deepened from peripheral auxiliary links to production core control links. Since the large-scale commercial use of 5G in 2019, China has continued to promote the application of 5G in various industries through policy guidance, construction guidance, pilot demonstration and other measures, and the nationwide "5G+Industrial Internet" project shows a large-scale development trend. According to the data of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, up to now, 5G applications have been integrated into 74 of 97 major categories of the national economy, and have been promoted in key fields such as industry, mining, power, and medical care. The number of "5G+industrial Internet" projects has exceeded 10000. The Report shows that at present, major industries such as aircraft, ships, electronics and mining have carried out the innovative practice of "5G+industrial Internet", forming a batch of typical applications such as remote equipment control, machine vision quality inspection and unmanned intelligent patrol inspection. However, the integration of 5G and industrial automation also faces challenges, such as insufficient variety of 5G terminal types in low latency scenarios of industrial automation, insufficient network determinacy and high real-time performance, and difficulties in network management. The report proposes that 5G technology based on the R16 version standard can meet the needs of industrial motion control, but it is not yet mature for commercial use. Currently, commercial 5G networks based on the R15 version standard have end-to-end latency mostly exceeding 10 milliseconds. Therefore, there have been no cases of using 5G for motion control in related industries, including automotive manufacturing. In order to promote the deep integration and application development of 5G and industrial automation, the report proposes that the future industry mainly carry out work in three aspects: enriching the types of 5G terminals in low latency scenarios of industrial automation, and encouraging the research and development of programmable logic controllers, instruments, actuators, industrial cameras and other products that support 5G; Based on technologies such as 5G local area network and time sensitive network, we aim to break through the key technologies of industrial 5G deterministic network and meet the high real-time requirements of industrial automatic control through 5G network technology; Build an industrial network comprehensive management platform to support unified control of factory 5G networks and traditional industrial networks, and achieve cross domain network management and operation and maintenance of 5G in industrial automation applications. The report believes that through relevant actions such as technological breakthroughs, product research and development, and application implementation, the construction of 5G factories in industrial enterprises and the large-scale development of 5G industrial applications will continue to advance. The innovative driving role of new generation information technology in the digital transformation of manufacturing will also be further played. (Lai Xin She)
