In order to accelerate the coordinated development of science and technology innovation in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area and tap into the driving force of science and technology innovation, recently, Wang Junzheng, the president of Outlook New Era magazine, and Li Jiaming, a special correspondent, visited Professor Zheng Jiawei, the "father of electric vehicles in Hong Kong" at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (referred to as "Polytechnic University"), visited the laboratory of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Polytechnic University, and held a symposium on the application of new energy in the Greater Bay Area. Professor Zheng Jiawei, who devoted himself to scientific research and pioneered the world's first ammonia powered electric vehicle, is an expert in the field of power electronics. As early as 2005, he led a team to develop pure electric vehicles, making Hong Kong one of the earliest places in the world to develop electric vehicle technology. He has had a strong interest in research and invention since childhood, and his life goal is to become an engineer and scientist, dedicating himself to scientific research for decades. He once said, "As a researcher, I feel very excited every time I think of innovative ideas, and even follow up without sleep or food." Zheng Jiawei, currently the director of the Power Electronics Research Center at the University of Hong Kong, has participated in over 170 research projects since joining the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1997, and has led more than 50 research projects. He has received research grants from the Education Grants Committee of the University of Hong Kong, the Innovation and Technology Department, and the University of Hong Kong, totaling over HKD 58 million. The first intelligent ammonia driven zero carbon multi energy supply station in Hong Kong, linear energy-saving refrigeration compressor, all-round heating commercial electromagnetic fryer, induction motor intelligent energy-saving device... From the new energy supply at the forefront of science and technology innovation to the electromagnetic fryer that facilitates daily life of citizens, Professor Zheng Jiawei introduced multiple personal invention patents and scientific research achievements of the power electronics research team at the University of Science and Technology to the visiting delegation. Among them, the most eye-catching is the globally pioneering ammonia powered electric vehicle led by him. This invention recently won the TechConnect Global Innovation Award at the World Innovation Conference and Expo, as well as the Silver Award at the Geneva Invention Exhibition. Professor Zheng Jiawei introduced the scientific research achievements to the visiting delegation. With the warming of climate and environmental issues, the global attention to the development of new energy vehicles is increasing day by day. Currently, hydrogen, which can achieve zero emissions as a fuel, has been applied in aerospace and rocket projects, and hydrogen powered vehicles are gradually emerging. However, their explosion risk and high cost are still difficult to overcome. According to Professor Zheng's recollection, during a conversation with colleagues, he triggered the idea of using ammonia instead of hydrogen as fuel for electric vehicles, and successfully applied the technology to golf carts three years ago, and to minibuses last year. Professor Zheng introduced that compared to hydrogen fuel electric vehicles, ammonia powered vehicles are safer and easier to manage. Electric vehicles use ammonia as fuel, which is decomposed into nitrogen and hydrogen through a catalyst, and then hydrogen is used to generate electricity, achieving zero carbon emissions. The nitrogen obtained during the decomposition of ammonia gas will be discharged along with the water produced by the chemical process. This gas is the main component of the atmosphere and is safe and harmless. "In the future, electric vehicles will develop towards better performance, higher efficiency, lower energy consumption, and better energy regeneration. The popularization of new energy fuels currently requires the successful implementation of fuel supply infrastructure." President Wang Junzheng stated that Professor Zheng Jiawei's attitude of actively engaging in scientific research and forgetting his own work is crucial
