The reporter learned from a press conference held by Haikou Customs on April 16th that, driven by the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port, the quality of Hainan's foreign trade development has steadily improved. In the first quarter of this year, the import and export of goods in the province reached 64.23 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.3%, which is equivalent to more than 90% of the total value of 2017. This is also the first time that the import and export value of goods in a single quarter in Hainan has exceeded 60 billion yuan. It is reported that Hainan's imports and exports to emerging markets are growing rapidly. In the first quarter, imports and exports to countries jointly building the "the Belt and Road" totaled 34.12 billion yuan, up 28.5%; Import and export to ASEAN reached 10.79 billion yuan, an increase of 33.5%, and ASEAN maintained its position as the largest trading partner of Hainan. During the same period, imports and exports to Africa and Latin America increased by 116.3% and 39.9% respectively. Driven by the construction of free trade ports, Hainan's foreign trade has achieved a simultaneous increase in both quantity and quality. From 2018 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of Hainan's import and export value was 22.2%; The number of enterprises with import and export performance has increased from less than 600 to over 1900; The number of trading partners has expanded from 160 to over 190. This year is a challenging year for the operation of Hainan Free Trade Port. Haikou Customs focuses on key policies, industries, platforms, enterprises, and port security, and has introduced 21 specific measures to support the high-quality development of Hainan's foreign trade.
