"Stable green power output benefits more people"

2024-04-16

At around 11am, in the Benban Photovoltaic Industry Park located in the Aswan Desert region of southern Egypt, Egyptian engineer Mustafa and colleagues were monitoring and collecting data from the Benban No. 3 substation, and transmitting the data to the data center located in the capital Cairo. Mustafa said, "Our job is to ensure the stable operation of the substation and the safe and efficient integration of the green electricity produced by our photovoltaic industrial park into the Egyptian national grid." Mustafa works for the boosting substation project of our photovoltaic industrial park, which was constructed by China Xidian Corporation and is an important component of the backbone network of the Egyptian national grid. The project includes the construction of four 220 kV substations and the expansion of one 500 kV substation. As the hub for power transmission in our photovoltaic industry park, the five substations have continuously provided over 13800 GWh of electricity to the local area, providing strong power support for Egypt's economic and social development. It is reported that the main equipment of the 5 substations in the step-up substation project is all using Chinese technology, and some of the equipment comes from the joint venture between China Xidian Group and EGEMAC High Voltage Electrical Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Egyptian Ministry of Electric Power. "In recent years, China's power products have been marketed globally, fully demonstrating that the technical level and quality of Chinese products are being recognized by global users," said Zhang Yanwen, Deputy General Manager of Xidian EGEMAC High Voltage Electrical Co., Ltd. Our photovoltaic industrial park is adjacent to the important water conservancy project Aswan Dam in Egypt. In recent years, with the increasing population and water consumption in Egypt, the power generation of the Aswan Dam has been unable to meet the local electricity demand. Aswan Province receives over 3000 hours of sunshine throughout the year, providing a continuous source of energy for Egypt's energy development. In 2019, one of the world's largest photovoltaic industrial parks constructed and financed by Chinese enterprises, the Benban Photovoltaic Industrial Park Power Generation Project, achieved full capacity grid connected power generation with a total installed capacity of over 2000 MW. According to the Comprehensive Sustainable Energy Strategy for 2035 released by the Egyptian government, the installed capacity of renewable energy in Egypt will reach 61 gigawatts by 2035, including 43 gigawatts of solar energy and 18 gigawatts of wind energy. In 2022, 20% of Egypt's electricity supply will come from renewable energy, and this proportion will increase to 42% by 2035. The data shows that when the photovoltaic industry park is at full capacity, it can generate 3.8 terawatt hours of electricity annually, greatly filling the electricity gap in Egypt and promoting the improvement of the local energy structure. As of now, China Xidian Group has participated in and completed dozens of complete substation engineering projects in the Egyptian market, providing 66kV to 500kV power transformers, lightning arresters and other transmission and transformation equipment for more than 50 substations, enhancing the production capacity of local electrical equipment in Egypt and promoting the development of the local power industry. Taking the photovoltaic industry park step-up substation project in our class as an example, during the project implementation process, experts and technical personnel from the Egyptian power field and relevant personnel from the Chinese side learned from each other and jointly formed an engineering management and construction team, effectively ensuring the smooth power transmission of the project. Since joining the project in 2012, Mustafa has performed excellently and has been sent to China multiple times for training and learning, starting from an ordinary technician
