The Hong Kong Tourism Development Board announced on April 6th that the first sea fireworks display will be held on the evening of May 1st at Victoria Harbour, marking the beginning of the May Day Golden Week. It is reported that starting from May, the Hong Kong Tourism Authority will regularly cooperate with festivals or large-scale events to launch sea fireworks or drone performances. The first drone performance will embellish the night sky of Victoria Harbour on May 11th, with traditional festivals as the theme, adding a festive atmosphere. The General Secretary of the Hong Kong Tourism Authority, Cheng Dingyi, stated that the "May Day" golden week is the peak season for mainland tourists to travel, and with a series of grand events and events to be held in Hong Kong in May, the Tourism Authority will seize the opportunity to not only strengthen its promotion in the mainland market, but also focus on presenting different themes of maritime fireworks or drone performances, adding icing on the cake for tourists visiting Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Tourism Development Bureau has launched promotional activities targeting the mainland market, such as strengthening publicity in the newly added cities of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province and Qingdao in Shandong Province for personal travel to Hong Kong and Macao, and collaborating with payment platforms and one-stop consumer information platforms in mainland China for promotion. It is reported that the regular sea fireworks or drone performances held from May will also be accompanied by the "Fantasy Song of the River" light and music concert, adding a dual visual effect to the attraction of the event and enhancing the unique charm of Victoria Harbour. The Hong Kong Tourism Authority stated that it encourages the industry to use event opportunities to launch more tourism products, such as upstream tourism and fireworks dinners, to attract tourists to extend their stay in Hong Kong, while creating business opportunities for industries such as catering and retail, in order to stimulate consumption and increase economic benefits. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced in the 2024/2025 fiscal year budget that it will create a brand in Hong Kong as the preferred destination for business and tourism, including monthly fireworks and drone performances.
