Over two thousand years ago, the ancient Silk Road connected China and ancient Rome, which were thousands of miles apart. This ancient road, starting from China and ending in Rome, is considered an important passage connecting the Eurasian continent and blending Eastern and Western civilizations. Taking time as the axis, we can clearly see that the friendship dialogue between China and Italy is constantly developing in the long river of history. Following Marco Polo's actions in China, more and more Italians are choosing to study and settle in China, and civil exchanges are flourishing between the two countries. In 2018, Anna Giada D'Angelo (Chinese name: Yujie) from southern Italy embarked on a journey to explore China. At the age of 16, she came to Guangzhou, China through an exchange program and gained lifelong experiences and insights, opening her door to the world. Afterwards, Yujie left footprints in Switzerland, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and other places, and devoted herself to social practice and volunteer service with a passionate heart. Now, she has come to China again for further education, hoping to bring a new self and uphold the original intention of 16 years old, continue to break through boundaries, embrace diversity, explore the unique charm of China, an ancient and modern oriental country, and continue to explore the mysteries of the vast world. Anna Giada D'Angelo (Yujie) from Italy to China: A cross-cultural journey. Yujie comes from a small town in the Calabria region of southern Italy, which is adjacent to the seaside, has beautiful scenery, simple customs, and a developed fishing and tourism industry. In 2017, she obtained a full scholarship funded by AFS International Cultural Exchange Organization through the national exam in Italy, and came to China in 2018 to start a one-year study exchange program. "I am very happy to have the opportunity to become an exchange student and come to China to experience and learn Chinese culture at the age of 16," said Yujie excitedly. She was the first member of her family to come to China. "Previously, I had little knowledge about China, so I was fortunate to have made this decision because coming here was like discovering a whole new world." After the course began, Yujie quickly felt a completely different high school life from Italy. The diligent and hardworking spirit of Chinese students impressed her. "In order to enter the university she longed for in her heart, my classmates persevered and worked hard every day, which deeply infected me with the courage to move forward towards the goal." She also experienced "military training" and rice cultivation for the first time through class practice activities, and gradually cultivated her ability to independently solve problems, the spirit of unity and cooperation, and an open and inclusive attitude in the disciplined collective life and traditional Eastern agricultural life. The opportunity that ignited Yujie's love for traditional Chinese culture was martial arts. "When I first came to Shaoguan for sightseeing, I was exposed to martial arts for the first time, which allowed me to appreciate the charm of traditional Chinese culture up close. Therefore, in early 2018, when AFS organized students to study in the hometown of martial arts - Foshan, Yujie did not hesitate to sign up to participate.". "While studying martial arts movements and spiritual essentials with professional teachers, I gradually realized the subtleties of mind and body balance."
