Simon Harris elected as the new leader of the Irish Unity Party and will serve as Prime Minister

Dublin News: The Irish Unification Party announced on the 24th that Simon Harris has been elected as the new leader of the party. He will be appointed as the Prime Minister of Ireland in April. Irish Prime Minister Varadka announced on the 20th that he has resigned from his position as leader of the Unification Party due to personal and political reasons, and will resign from his position as Prime Minister once a new leader is elected by the Unification Party. Harris was the only candidate within the United Party seeking the leadership position after Varadka resigned. He will become Prime Minister after the Easter holiday ends in April and the Irish Parliament resumes. Harris is 37 years old and currently serves as the Minister of Higher Education in Ireland. He has previously served as the Minister of Health and Acting Minister of Justice. In June 2020, the United Party led by Varadka formed a coalition government with the Republican and Green parties. According to the agreement reached by the three parties, the new government will implement a rotating prime minister system. Republican leader Martin will first serve as prime minister until December 2022, and then Varadka will take over as prime minister until the end of the five-year term of this government.
