Sikongo Haihanbo, Executive Director of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Namibia, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters in Windhoek, the capital, that promoting the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" has a significant impact on Namibia's economic development and is a key factor for further economic growth of Namibia and other African countries. Haihanbo stated that roads are a necessary condition for promoting the flow of people and goods between countries and continents, and can bring tangible benefits. Not only Namibia can benefit from the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", but also countries in the South and developed countries in the world can benefit from it. "I was impressed by a Chinese saying, 'If you want to be rich, build roads first'. There is no convenient way to talk about the circulation of people and goods." Haihanbo said that the ports, roads, railways and other infrastructure invested by Chinese enterprises in Namibia are not only crucial to the economic growth of Namibia, but also drive the economic development of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and other surrounding countries. Haihanbo said, "We welcome more Chinese enterprises and individuals to invest and develop, create more job opportunities for local people, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win.". Haihanbo said that Namibia can learn from China, the world's second largest economy, not only has the opportunity to learn successful experiences, but also directly benefits from them, promoting Namibia's early industrialization. He said that China is a good and old friend worth trusting. Referring to how Chinese enterprises continue to play a role in the economic development of African countries, Haihanbo believed that the free trade area of the African continent and the high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" complement each other. He hopes that with the help of Chinese partners, the proportion of trade within the African continent can increase from the current level of less than 20% to a level similar to or higher than other continents in the world, improving the basic living standards of residents on the African continent.
