New Year's Concert Becomes a Chinese New Year Customs

2024-01-17

Recently, multiple New Year's concerts have been held intensively across the country. According to statistics, there were over 460 concerts nationwide between December 29, 2023 and January 4, 2024. On the occasion of bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new, people rushed to the concert hall to have a ceremonial New Year celebration by enjoying music. Since the first broadcast of the Vienna New Year's Concert by CCTV in 1987, this form of welcoming the New Year through orchestral symphony performance has been widely known by the Chinese people for more than 30 years. In the process of integrating into Chinese society, the New Year's Concert has gradually transformed from an imported product to a "new year's custom" for the Chinese people. The Chinese Symphony Orchestra held a New Year's concert at the Concert Hall of the National Theatre. The world's top musicians and classic songs have made their debut at the famous Vienna New Year Concert. Every year, they strive to give this historic welcoming form a new look with new repertoire and new forms. This year's Chinese New Year's concert has also attracted major bands to showcase their strength, including European national level bands. The Italian Philharmonic Orchestra has long been renowned in Europe and is known as the "music whirlwind of the Mediterranean". Many Chinese audiences are not unfamiliar with it, and the band has performed more than 150 times in China in recent years. At the end of last year, the band's New Year's concert was held in Guangzhou, sparking a wave of audience pursuit. The reason why the Italian Philharmonic Orchestra has come to China time and time again, in the words of its artistic director Anthony Amandini, is precisely because Chinese audiences are increasingly able to "understand, appreciate music" and "give great enthusiasm". The thriving domestic performance market has a strong attraction to musicians around the world. The Wuxi Symphony Orchestra, established on January 1st this year, will premiere the New Year's Concert and invite international top piano performer Mazuyev. Mazuyev brought the famous "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor", and his clean and sharp performance technique seemed to have transformed "La Er" (the abbreviation of composer Rakh's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor") into "La San" (the abbreviation of Rakh's "Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor", known for its high difficulty), igniting the entire audience. Mazuyev said that this was his first performance on the first day of the New Year in his life. "When I found out that a new symphony orchestra had just been established in Wuxi, China, I didn't even think about it and agreed," he said. With the dissemination and popularization of classical music, audiences have increasingly high expectations for concerts, and world-class musicians and classic songs have appeared in domestic concerts. At the Shanghai New Year Concert, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, along with renowned conductor Daniel Harding and Chinese pianist Lang Lang, performed five world-renowned songs, which can be said to be neither proud nor vulgar. During the performance of Norwegian composer Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, Lang Lang and Harding had a high degree of coordination, with the first movement wandering around, the second movement generously expressing themselves, and the third movement moving from lively to rough. The romantic phrases and intensity fluctuations brought the abundant emotions in this concerto to the extreme. The Chinese Symphony Orchestra held two New Year's concerts in Beijing at the end of last year. The performance repertoire includes the overture "Baron Gypsy" by Austrian composer John Strauss, and the interlude "Knight of the Countryside" by Italian composer Muscani
