The Supreme People's Court Releases Typical Cases of Crimes Against Drug Safety

The Supreme People's Court today released a batch of typical cases of crimes against drug safety, aiming to strengthen the interpretation of the law based on cases, effectively deter crimes against drug safety, and create a strong atmosphere for the whole society to jointly maintain drug safety. This is one of the national "Quality Month" activities jointly carried out by the Supreme People's Court, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and other departments. Drug safety is related to the physical health and life safety of the people, the national economy and people's livelihood, and the overall stability of society. People's courts at all levels strictly implement the "four strictest" requirements, fully play the role of judicial functions, strictly punish crimes that endanger drug safety in accordance with the law, and effectively ensure the safety of medication for the people. From 2013 to 2022, courts across the country concluded over 28000 first instance criminal cases related to the crime of producing, selling, and providing counterfeit drugs, as well as the crime of producing, selling, and providing substandard drugs, and the crime of obstructing drug management, with over 38000 judgments. The five cases announced this time are closely related to the daily medication safety of the people, involving different types of drugs such as imported drugs, vaccines, medical beauty drugs, special disease drugs, and non prescription drugs in the field of dentistry, including typical criminal methods such as cybercrime, disinfection products impersonating drugs, and medical insurance fraud, which are representative. Several of the defendants were sentenced to more than ten years in prison and fined heavily, reflecting the clear attitude and firm determination of the people's court to uphold the principle of putting the people first and punishing crimes endangering drug safety with strict punishment.
