The export value is nearly 50 billion yuan! Why is the Chinese canned food so popular that it has been plundered by many countries?

In 2023, inflation in some countries remains high, local food prices have soared, and canned food exports from China are selling well in many overseas countries, with export volumes continuing to grow. Sun Baiyu is a staff member of a food trade enterprise in Shenzhen. Early in the morning, she hurried to the customs business processing window. "Because before the cargo ship leaves at 6 pm, they must urgently complete customs clearance procedures, so that this entire container of canned corn and bamboo shoots can be shipped out in time.". Canning companies are also very busy. Li Zhongbin's company has been producing canned vegetables since 2004. Since July and August of last year, the market has improved significantly, with the shipment volume of canned mushrooms and seafood produced by the enterprise increasing significantly. Due to the decline in international production of tomatoes, canned tomatoes have become a popular food for export. After the food production enterprise in Dongguan, Guangdong, launched its first canned tomato at the end of last year, many traders came to negotiate and hope to sell their products overseas. According to statistics from the China Canning Industry Association, in 2022, China's canned exports reached 3.125 million tons, with an export value of 6.89 billion US dollars (about 47.4 billion yuan), up 12% and 22% respectively year-on-year. Both export volume and export value have reached new highs in recent years. Canned products have been one of the most important export products in China's food industry for a long time. What is the impact of the recent significant increase in foreign trade exports on China's canned food production enterprises? A reporter saw in a food production enterprise in Guangdong that boxes of canned goods that had been packaged were waiting to be shipped out of the warehouse. After the customs inspection was completed, they would be shipped to the port and exported overseas. A company in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, mainly produces ready-to-eat canned goods. With the characteristics of easy preservation and portability, the export of such canned goods has increased significantly in recent years. In the company where Zhou Jie works, several new production lines have just been launched, and during the peak order season, the factory is basically in full production. Another canning company in Guangdong is expanding production to ensure order delivery. According to customs statistics, Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America are currently the largest export destinations for canned goods in China. In terms of category, canned vegetables and fruits account for the largest export share, while the export volume of canned ready-to-eat foods and canned mushrooms has increased significantly in the past two years. The industry believes that with the continuous growth of overseas demand and the acceleration of production expansion by Chinese enterprises, the export categories and total volume of canned products are expected to continue to increase.
