(China and the DPRK jointly commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers' War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.) October 25 is the 72nd anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteers' War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. On the same day, China and the DPRK held a wreath laying activity at the Friendship Tower in Pyongyang to deeply remember the martyrs of the volunteer army who died in the war to resist US aggression and aid Korea. Sun Hongliang, the Charg é d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in the DPRK, overseas Chinese in the DPRK, representatives of Chinese funded institutions and media in the DPRK, as well as Jiang Runshi, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, and other leaders of relevant departments of the Korean party, government and military, as well as representatives of the citizens of Pyongyang, attended. The wreaths presented in the name of the Chinese Embassy in Korea, the Central Committee of the Korean Workers' Party, the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly and the Cabinet were neatly placed in front of the Friendship Tower. The Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Social Security, the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Culture, the Foreign Cultural Liaison Commission, the Korea China Friendship Association, the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the Korean Labor Party and the Pyongyang Municipal People's Committee also laid wreaths. At 10 a.m., all participants stood in front of the Friendship Tower and the Korean People's Army military band played the national anthems of China and North Korea. Accompanied by the affectionate "Song of Flowers", representatives of the two sides walked forward slowly to lift the wreath onto the tower of friendship. Sun Hongliang and Jiang Runshi slowly stepped forward to tidy the ribbons, and all the staff bowed in silence to pay the highest tribute to the martyrs and express their deepest sorrow. Representatives from all walks of life in Pyongyang also presented bouquets to the Friendship Tower. The Sino Korean Friendship Tower was built in 1959 and is located in Peony Peak District, Pyongyang. The tower body is made of 1025 pieces of granite and marble, symbolizing that the Chinese People's Volunteers went to Korea to fight on October 25, 1950. (Liu Xinshe)
