Danjiangkou Reservoir, located in Hubei and Henan provinces, is the largest artificial fresh water lake in Asia, the water source of the Middle Route Project of the South to North Water Transfer, and the national first-class water source protection area. It has the reputation of "Asia Tianchi Lake". Since the first phase of the middle route of the South to North Water Transfer Project was officially opened in 2014, the accumulated water supply to the north has exceeded 51.7 billion cubic meters, benefiting 24 large and medium-sized cities, more than 190 counties (cities, districts), and more than 80 million people along the Beijing Tianjin Hebei Henan line.
