The earliest traces of opium use so far are found in pottery in Jerusalem in the 14th century BC

On September 20, 2022 local time, an archaeologist from the Israeli Antiquities Authority (IAA) held a container containing opium in the 14th century BC in Jerusalem. These containers were found in a cemetery and are now on display at the Antiquities Administration. On the same day, relevant Israeli experts said that they had found opium residues in pottery in the 14th century BC, which is the oldest evidence of opium use found so far. (Liu Xinshe)
