Google ar glasses are making a comeback, and small-scale tests will be launched next month

2022-07-20

On July 20, Beijing time, Google announced that it would test the AR prototype device in public places. Some prototype devices look like ordinary glasses and are equipped with microphones, cameras and transparent displays. Please note that the new ar glasses are not products and will not be sold to the public, but Google will use them to test various apps, such as real-time translation, to show the direction on the glasses. Now that we are talking about testing, it shows that Google has made some progress in the research and development of AR devices. Google had launched "Google glass" ar glasses before, but it failed in the end. Juston Payne, Google's product manager, said in his blog post: "it's still too early. We want to make the product well, so we will take it slow. We pay high attention to the privacy of testers and people around users. These prototype devices under development look like ordinary glasses, with lens display, audio and video sensors, such as microphones and cameras." The prototype device is equipped with LED lights, which turn on when the glasses start recording data. Glasses cannot be used to record videos or take photos and then view them, but they can capture image data and perform some specific tasks, such as determining what the object is and displaying the direction. In addition, testers cannot use glasses in schools, government buildings, medical places, churches, protest sites or other sensitive areas. Some Google employees and selected personnel will participate in the test, with a number of about dozens. At the developer conference in May, Google introduced ar glasses, and the key function introduced at that time was "real-time translation". During the demonstration, Google employees once said that AR glasses are "subtitles of the world". Apple, meta and Microsoft are also developing ar devices, but the current ar devices are far from mature. (Xinhua News Agency)
