Hong Kong Fisheries and Conservation Department: Quarantine period for imported cats and dogs from mainland China will be reduced to 30 days

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced on the 13th that starting from June 3rd, cats and dogs imported from the mainland will have their quarantine period significantly reduced from the current 120 days to 30 days upon arrival, as long as they meet relevant quarantine regulations and hold an animal health certificate issued by an official veterinarian from the mainland. The Fisheries and Conservation Department updated the quarantine arrangements for imported cats and dogs from the mainland on the same day, and from June 3rd, the mainland will be included in Group 3A. The new arrangement aims to facilitate animal owners to bring their pets cats and dogs from mainland China to Hong Kong. A spokesperson for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said that applicants for importing cats and dogs from the mainland must ensure that their animals comply with the requirements of Group 3A and submit the necessary certificates to the department, including the requirement for animals to be implanted with compliant microchips; Hold a valid certificate of vaccination against rabies and designated infectious diseases; Blood samples should be taken no less than 90 days and no more than one year before departure, and rabies antibody titers should be tested and qualified results obtained at a laboratory recognized by the Fisheries and Conservation Department, as well as holding an animal health certificate issued by an official veterinarian in mainland China. A spokesperson for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department stated that in order to ensure strict implementation of quarantine regulations, the department has agreed with relevant departments in mainland China to have the first phase of animal health certificates issued by official veterinarians from Shenzhen Customs.
