This veteran has paved the way for a once backward small mountain village, where the fragrance of pear blossoms wafts down the road to prosperity

The spring breeze brushes by, with pear blossoms swaying like snow on the branches, and the fragrance permeates the entire hillside east of Wangjia Village in Jiewen Town, Haicheng City, Liaoning Province. In the midst of pear blossoms, a dark man is leading the villagers, holding a long pollination pole and quickly lighting one pear flower after another. Now is the critical period for pollination. Sprinkle pollen on the flower buds in a timely manner, and only in autumn can sweet and fragrant Nanguo pears be produced. "Cui Gaochuang, a middle-aged man who explained artificial pollination techniques to the villagers, is the secretary of the Wangjia Village Party Committee and also a retired soldier. 54 year old Cui Gaochuang once served in the Jilin Corps of the People's Armed Police. After retiring, he returned to Wangjia Village to develop and was determined to change the backward appearance of his hometown. Wangjia Village is a mountain village with "nine mountains, half water, half farmland", with more slopes and less arable land. For many years, several village officials have tried to find a way to increase the income and wealth of their fellow villagers, but without any funds or resources, the development of the village has not made significant progress. As the saying goes, rely on mountains to eat, rely on water to drink. Looking at the desolate slopes in the distance, Cui Gaochuang pondered over them and felt that in order for the village to develop, it was still necessary to work on the mountains. The villagers of Wangjia Village have thought about this. In those years, they had planted apples, hawthorns, and other fruits on the hillside, but these fruits did not have market competitiveness in the local area, making it difficult for people's wallets to inflate. In order to find more suitable economic crops, Cui Gaochuang started a "planting experiment" on his own slope. After repeated attempts, he found that the Nanguo pear tree grew the most vigorously and produced sweet and juicy fruits. At that time, some villages and towns in Haicheng City had already started planting Nanguo pears. This type of pear is not large in size, but its flesh is delicate, it has sufficient moisture, and its aroma is rich, making it popular in the market. To further determine the feasibility of large-scale planting of Nanguo pears in Wangjia Village, Cui Gaochuang invited experts to investigate the village. The results of soil testing have greatly boosted Cui Gaochuang's confidence. Originally, the soil on the slopes of Wangjia Village was rich in minerals and very suitable for the growth of Nanguo pear. In 1998, Cui Gaochuang was elected as a member of the village committee. He discussed the development of Nanguo pear cultivation with other village officials and received support. Afterwards, Cui Gaochuang took the lead in carrying out large-scale planting of Nanguo pear in the village and shared the planting experience he had explored and summarized with more villagers. With more and more farmers planting Nanguo pears in Wangjia Village, more than 100000 Nanguo pear trees have been planted one after another, beautifying barren slopes. Later, Wangjia Village established the Nanguo Pear Planting Professional Cooperative. Through unified material supply, unified technical training, and unified sales services, more than 300 households who have joined the cooperative have developed together, and the collective income of the village continues to increase. Whoever can do practical and good things for the villagers will win their support and trust. In 2013, Cui Gaochuang was elected as the Party Secretary of Wangjia Village with a high number of votes, leading his fellow villagers to continue on the road to prosperity. As a "soldier secretary", Cui Gaochuang demonstrates the style of a "soldier" in his work. He has the courage to handle things, while also being very meticulous. To enhance the added value of Nanguo pear business, refining and deepening processing is the only way. Cui Gaochuang repeatedly travels outside for investigation and research, consulting relevant departments on policies. Returning to the village, he shared the experiences and potential risks he had gained with the village officials and village representatives, clarifying the specific development ideas together. The experience of holding the "Zhuge Liang Meeting" during his military service was also applied to his work by Cui Gaochuang. In the pear orchard and by the village road, one can often see scenes of him and his fellow villagers enthusiastically discussing. "Villagers the final say what happens in the village. One person's idea is discussed, and one industry is done. Everyone's idea is listened to. Only in this way can the scheme be stable and it is easier to form entrepreneurial synergy." Cui Gaochuang said. The fragrant and delicious Nanguo pear juice, the soft and smooth Nanguo pear lumps... Nowadays, the Nanguo pear products produced in Wangjia Village are highly favored by consumers, and the village's collective income has further increased. With the stable development of the Nanguo pear industry in Wangjia Village, this previously backward small mountain village has been recognized as a national "one village, one product" demonstration village and has become a well-known prosperous village. In 2022, Cui Gaochuang was rated as the model worker of Liaoning Province. We still need to keep working hard to give our fellow villagers a better life. ”Cui Gaochuang's words were filled with enthusiasm. (New Society)
