Recently, in the revolutionary martyrs cemetery in Licheng, Jinan, Shandong the names of 73 martyrs who were once labeled as "nameless" were finally engraved on their tombstones. Behind this achievement is the tireless efforts of the team of Shandong First Medical University's "Lantern Bearers". From opening coffins to sorting remains, from extracting DNA to comparing data, from giving to making short videos... These volunteers, with an average age of 28, have used their professionalism and enthusiasm to give heroes names and to give memories a voice.
According to statistics, among the more than 1.96 million revolutionary martyrs officially registered in China, only 559,000 have a burial site. These martyrs were once vibrant lives, they also had love and family, joy and sorrow. With their firm belief and passionate patriotism, they painted a series of and profound historical pictures. To confirm the identity of the martyrs and find their relatives, to let them go from "nameless" to "named", and from "named to "immortalized", is not only a high tribute to the martyrs, but also the best consolation to their relatives.
For young people, process of searching for and paying tribute to the martyrs is also a self-purification on a spiritual level. In the Longhua Martyrs Cemetery in Shanghai, letters to theyrs Chen Yannian and Chen Qiong are constantly arriving, the most common sentence in the letters is "I hope you can see", and the signature at the end the letter is often "an ordinary Chinese youth". In the martyrs cemetery in Lanzhou, Gansu, college students offer candy to the martyrs' graves, "the martyrs' revolutionary road is too bitter, I want to make them a little sweeter". "You have suffered for my sweetness, and I am willing to live to your wish", this kind of dialogue across time and space, makes people's eyes moist. In the "critical period of growth" of life, young people approach heroes praise them in their own ways, which is a self-transcendence to awaken the meaning of life.
The best tribute to history is to create new historical; the best memorial to the martyrs is to push forward the cause initiated by the predecessors. Someone asked, "How to inherit the spirit of heroes and models in times of peace" Wang Hailong, the descendant of the special combat hero Deng Chaogui, gave the answer with his actions: he was based in the grassroots for many years enduring the wind and sun, and silently contributing to the environmental protection monitoring post: "The heroes used their blood to defend the great rivers and mountains of our country, and I also to be responsible and protect the green mountains and rivers."
