On April 23rd, the National Space Administration organized the International Lunar Research Station Developers Conference in Shanghai, where experts and scholars from multiple countries discussed the future cooperation mode and collaborative development path of the research station. The reporter from Xinhua News Agency interviewed Wu Weiren, an academician of the CAE Member and the chief designer of the China Lunar Exploration Project at the meeting, and responded to public concerns about the latest progress of the International Lunar Research Station. The International Lunar Research Station is capable of long-term autonomous operation and continuous scientific research. Q: How is the International Lunar Research Station planned? Answer: The International Lunar Research Station is a comprehensive scientific research facility initiated by China and constructed with the participation of multiple countries. It is located on the surface and orbit of the moon, with the aim of "peaceful use, equality and mutual benefit, and common development". The International Lunar Research Station is a comprehensive scientific experimental facility that operates autonomously for a long time, with human participation in the short term, and is scalable and maintainable. Capable of round-trip between Earth and Moon, energy supply, central control, communication and navigation, lunar scientific exploration, and ground support, continuously carrying out interdisciplinary, multi-objective, comprehensive scientific and technological activities such as scientific exploration and research, resource development and utilization, and cutting-edge technology verification. How is the current progress of basic construction completed before 2035? Answer: The construction plan of the International Lunar Research Station is divided into two steps, with the basic construction completed before 2035 and the expanded construction completed before 2045. Chang'e-7 and Chang'e-8 are both basic components of the International Lunar Research Station, and their development is currently progressing smoothly. According to the current development and implementation plan, the International Lunar Research Station has made a good start, and we will discuss and promote it with partner countries in the future. At present, China and its partner countries have jointly discussed and determined five major scientific goals, including scientific experiments and resource development. To achieve these scientific goals, supporting technological validations such as "round-trip between the Earth and the Moon" are also required. If these goals can be successfully achieved, it will provide a valuable set of scientific achievements for the world. We will reach higher levels in understanding and utilizing the moon. What are the goals of the International Lunar Research Station Developers Conference to promote scientific research and share scientific achievements? Answer: The initiative to build an international lunar research station has received responses from multiple countries around the world, with 17 countries, international organizations, and over 50 international research institutions joining the cooperation on the international lunar research station. Everyone gathered at this meeting to report on progress and unify their understanding of scientific goals. In addition, all parties will follow the principle of consultation, co construction and sharing, and work together with partner teams to jointly discuss scientific and application target joint demonstration, lunar site selection, preliminary plan demonstration of scientific research operation platform, etc., and establish their respective division of labor. In the future, we will jointly carry out joint engineering research and development, engineering and scientific deployment, ground facility construction, international rule making, and talent education and training activities. We will also share ground testing facilities, conduct scientific and applied research together, and share scientific achievements. (New Society)
