Reporters learned from the National Cutural Heritage Administration on April 21 that the Office of the Leading Group for the Fourth National Cultural Relics Census recently issued two notices, requiring more efforts to discover new sites in key areas such as old cities, famous towns and villages, historical blocks, and traditional villages, and more efforts to discover new sites and representative buildings in modern and contemporary times, as well as work guidelines. The notice proposes that in field investigations, various regions should increase their attention to representative buildings of modern times. For representative buildings of modern times that can reflect certain regional characteristics, typical architectural styles, represent special functions or types, witness the development history of the region or industry, and important architect representative works, if they meet the standards for cultural relics recognition, regardless of whether they have been announced as historical buildings, historical style buildings, traditional style buildings, etc., they should be surveyed and included in the cultural relics protection system. The notice emphasizes that all regions should strengthen the excavation and on-site investigation of clues reflecting the material cultural heritage of the Party history, the history of New China, the history of reform and opening up, and the history of socialist development in field investigations. In addition, during the investigation process, any ancient buildings built before 1911 that exist as the main body, regardless of whether they have been announced as historical buildings, historical style buildings, traditional style buildings, etc., should be surveyed and included in the cultural relic protection system.
