Recently, the National Natural Science Foundation of China released the "Top Ten Scientific Advances in China" for 2024. Among them, the major scientific research achievement of "allogeneic CAR-T cell therapy for autoimmune diseases" jointly developed by Professor Xu Huji and the research team of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University was selected, which is the only selected achievement of our military. For a long time, how to alleviate and cure autoimmune diseases has been a common challenge faced by the global medical community. The traditional autologous CAR-T cell therapy currently in use has limitations such as personalized preparation, long production cycle, and high cost, making it difficult to widely apply in clinical treatment. Professor Xu Huji and his research team have jointly developed allogeneic universal CAR-T cells, which enable the use of standardized cell products to provide treatment for different patients without the need for personalized preparation, thereby simplifying the treatment process. At present, this achievement has been applied to treat 3 patients with severe autoimmune diseases, all of whom have achieved therapeutic effects. Previously, this achievement was published in the international academic journal Cell, becoming the world's first report on the research paradigm of using allogeneic universal CAR-T cells to treat autoimmune diseases.
