The beautiful spring scenery in March is the season for outings and outings. The Wenxing Pavilion in the Tianci Zhuang campus of Suzhou University has become a choice for many citizens and tourists. Under the clear sky, the four corners of the eaves resemble the delicate and agile wings of a swallow, fluttering gracefully to embrace the sky and colorful clouds. The morning glow and evening glow of Wenxing Pavilion are the most profound memories of my alma mater's beautiful scenery. Now, climbing the tower to enjoy the scenery in spring is truly wonderful, "sighed Ms. Hai, who has graduated for many years. According to the guide, Wenxing Pavilion was first built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, with a total height of about 28 meters. The pavilion has a square surface, commonly known as the "square tower". The surrounding area was originally the location of Changzhou County School. Since its establishment, Changzhou County School has seen a rise in talent and a flourishing academic community. The continuous stream of top scorers, second place scorers, flower explorers, and successful candidates, as well as the beautiful stories of Peng's ancestors and grandsons' top scorers, have witnessed the glory of "Suzhou's top scorers in the world" and are known as the cultural heritage of Suzhou. Entering the courtyard of Wenxing Pavilion, there are two prominent plaques at the main entrance of the main hall. The red horizontal plaque reads "Guixiang Hall", symbolizing the prosperity of the toad palace and the triumph of science and technology. Strolling through the Guixiang Hall, the Ming Dynasty inscriptions behind the pillars quietly tell the story of the Wenxing Pavilion's past, while the palace examination papers of Lu Kentang, the Kangxi Yichou top scholar, displayed in the Zhuangyuan Pavilion, amaze visitors with the talents and character of ancient scholars. When the early spring sunshine falls through the carved window frames, casting mottled light and shadow on the green brick floor, it contrasts with the surrounding blooming flowers and trees, forming a beautiful picture of ancient charm and liveliness. However, the Wenxing Pavilion, which is over 400 years old, has gone through many vicissitudes, but there are no visible cracks in the roof, scratches on the corners, or pollution on the beams. How did the school make this century old ancient building "forever youthful"? According to records, the school has carried out three major protective and maintenance works on Wenxing Pavilion. In September 2024, after more than two months of renovation, Wenxing Pavilion was once again revitalized and officially opened to the public. Since then, the general public, tourists, and students have competed to come and check in, to witness the charm of Wenxing Pavilion, hoping for the success of the Chan Palace and academic achievements. At that time, the renovation of Wenxing Pavilion followed the principle of "restoring the old as it is". Led by Tang Jianfang, the district level inheritor of traditional architectural construction skills of Xiangshan Gang, the team carefully repaired the details such as wooden components, roof ridges, and paint, making it both stable and preserving the original architectural style of Wu. People can glimpse the historical old appearance from this ancient relic, as well as the new appearance of Xiangshan intangible cultural heritage skills. Wenxing Pavilion is an important cultural heritage of Suzhou University. Nowadays, Guixiang Hall has been transformed into Changzhou County School Museum. This ancient building not only carries the historical memory of Suzhou's culture and education, but also serves as a link for students to appreciate the spirit of ancient scholars' scholarship, as well as an important window for citizens and tourists to appreciate Jiangnan culture. As a national key cultural relic protection unit, Suzhou University has always respected the originality of architecture and protected and renovated the cultural relics and ancient buildings on campus with the concept of "revitalization and utilization". At the same time, the school integrates high-quality resources and offers specialized training courses, which not only include theoretical courses such as policy interpretation, urban construction, characteristic towns, historical buildings and ancient village protection, but also set up on-site teaching points such as Suzhou Urban Construction Museum, Suzhou Planning Exhibition Hall, Pingjiang Historical and Cultural Block, and No. 32 Front Street of Ancient City Road to interpret the pilot experience of Suzhou urban renewal on site. On the first day of 2025, the bell of Wenxing Pavilion echoed melodiously over the campus, as if crossing time and space, echoing the bell of the university four hundred years ago, praying for the prosperity of culture and education and the continuity of cultural heritage in Suzhou, the "city of blessings". Time flies, in the spring of March, Wenxing Pavilion becomes even more beautiful surrounded by green trees, and has become the most touching scenery on the campus of Soochow University.
