Multiple regions are competing for the acceleration of the embodied intelligent humanoid robot industry

2025-03-05

Recently, Beijing released a three-year action plan for embodied intelligence, aiming to cultivate industrial clusters worth billions of yuan. Zhejiang, Guangdong and other provinces and cities have also introduced policies and plans to support embodied intelligence/humanoid robots. The interviewed experts stated that embodied intelligence/humanoid robots, as an emerging industry, will become an important force in the construction of modern industrial systems with technological breakthroughs and the improvement of industrial ecology, and will also accelerate their entry into more application scenarios, including households. Multiple regions have released embodied intelligent "construction drawings", and Beijing has developed embodied intelligent "construction drawings". On February 28th, the reporter learned from a special press conference held by the Beijing Municipal Government Information Office that it is expected that by the end of 2027, Beijing will break through more than 100 key technologies and produce no less than 10 internationally leading software and hardware products; Strive to promote the large-scale implementation of 10000 embodied intelligent robots and cultivate industrial clusters worth billions. The "Beijing Action Plan for Innovation and Industrial Cultivation of Embodied Intelligent Technology (2025-2027)" released at the meeting shows that Beijing will promote technological innovation and industrial development in the field of embodied intelligence from four dimensions: technological innovation, platform support, scenario traction, and ecological optimization. In Zhejiang, the birthplace of the "Spring Festival Gala Robot", the "Implementation Plan for Innovative Development of Zhejiang Province's Humanoid Robot Industry (2024-2027)" was issued as early as September last year, with a forward-looking layout and accelerated promotion of the innovation and development of the province's humanoid robot industry. The 2025 Zhejiang Provincial Government Work Report proposes to "layout and construct future industries, deepen the 'artificial intelligence+' action, accelerate the layout of new industries and formats such as humanoid robots, quantum information, neuromorphic intelligence, synthetic biology, aerospace information, and low altitude economy," and seize the high ground of future competition. In Guangdong, where humanoid robots enter factories in groups and screw screws, the "Action Plan for Building a Modern Industrial System in Guangdong Province 2025" released in February this year proposed to vigorously develop embodied intelligent robots such as humanoid robots, accelerate breakthroughs in machine brains, machine limbs, machine bodies, and key core components, and actively promote innovation in intelligent robot application scenarios. Build a provincial specific intelligent robot innovation center with high standards, introduce and cultivate 3 to 5 unicorn enterprises and technology-based leading enterprises. According to incomplete statistics, more than ten provinces and cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong, Chongqing, etc. have introduced policies to support the development of embodied intelligence/humanoid robot industry, and regard it as an important lever to promote high-quality economic development and industrial upgrading. Entering the critical stage of large-scale application, "embodied intelligence, as one of the important paths to achieve general artificial intelligence, has become a new highland of scientific and technological competition, a new track for future industries, and a new engine for economic development." Liu Weihua, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Zhongguancun Management Committee, said. Zhu Minghao, Executive Director of the China High end Manufacturing Research Center at Beijing Jiaotong University, believes that the embodied intelligence/humanoid robot industry, as an emerging industry, will become an important force in the construction of a modern industrial system with technological breakthroughs and the improvement of industrial ecology. China is comprehensively promoting equipment updates and new technological transformations, and the main task at this stage is to promote comprehensive digital transformation and upgrading. One important upgraded equipment is intelligent equipment represented by embodied intelligence/humanoid robots. The broad scene of industrial transformation and upgrading is giving rise to a large demand for intelligent equipment, opening up vast space for the embodied intelligence/humanoid robot industry Zhu Minghao said. Su Guobin, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, said that as the source of national AI innovation, Beijing has established embodied intelligence as the core direction of the development of new generation AI. Now, we have preliminarily formed a technological path of 'brain cerebellum ontology' collaborative innovation, and embodied intelligence technology is in a critical stage of transformation from laboratory research and development to large-scale application. Beijing has established a government investment fund with a total scale of 100 billion yuan and a duration of 15 years, focusing on supporting future industries such as artificial intelligence and robotics, actively guiding social capital to invest in key common technology research and industrialization projects, while building a high-level innovation platform to promote industry university research collaborative innovation and international cooperation, and accelerating scene opening and large-scale application. When will robots enter ordinary people's homes? Since robots appeared on the Spring Festival Gala, people are full of expectations for when robots will enter their homes. The reporter searched for "humanoid robots" on e-commerce platforms and could already find "Spring Festival Gala style" humanoid robots. Although Yushu Technology's two humanoid robots were first released for sale on JD.com at prices of 99000 yuan and 650000 yuan respectively, JD's self operated channels have already sold out, and only stores that have added tens of thousands of yuan for sale still show stock. There are even a number of rental robot stores on second-hand platforms, with daily rents ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of yuan. Zhu Minghao introduced that since last year, humanoid robot companies such as Ubiquitous, Yushu Technology, and Xingdong Era have emerged and sparked a wave of humanoid robot development. With breakthroughs and demonstrations in application scenarios, humanoid robots will begin to be deeply applied in manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, consumption and other fields, especially in combination with manufacturing, which will achieve rapid iteration and maturity of humanoid robots. From the current perspective, robots still have some weak links. For example, key components such as motors, reducers, specialized chips, as well as basic materials such as biomimetic materials and lightweight materials, require increased investment in research and industrialization. In addition, the high cost of the product still hinders its market application and promotion Zhu Minghao told reporters that consumer scenarios are one of the main application scenarios for humanoid robots, especially as China has entered an aging society, there is a strong demand for elderly care robots and medical robots. At present, many humanoid robot companies in China are exploring applications for home scenarios. Recently, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) officially released the international standard for elderly care robots led by China. This standard provides a benchmark for the design, manufacturing, testing, and certification of various elderly care robots based on the physiological and behavioral characteristics of the elderly, and will lead the healthy development of the global elderly care robot industry. The next step is to accelerate the adaptation verification of humanoid robots in complex real-world scenarios, introduce policies to encourage first-time use, and humanoid robots will soon appear in more scenarios Zhu Minghao said.
