The Southern African Development Community (SADC) "Sustainable Energy Week" opened on the 24th in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, with the theme of "accelerating sustainable energy solutions and achieving energy security in the SADC region", aimed at addressing the energy challenges faced by the SADC region and promoting cooperation and innovation in the energy field. In his speech at the opening ceremony of the event, President Boko of Botswana pointed out that the ability to produce and distribute various forms of energy must be improved, especially the priority of renewable energy. Investing in sustainable energy is not only an environmental decision, but also an economic imperative. Enhancing regional energy security will help promote regional industrialization and economic integration, and realize the vision of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement. He emphasized that implementing an energy supply strategy requires collective action, and no country can tackle this challenge alone. He called on member states of the Southern African Development Community to deepen cross-border cooperation, maximize the use of collective resources through the development of regional energy projects, policy coordination, and sharing of practical experience. The 'Sustainable Energy Week' event will continue until the 28th. On the 24th, about 500 people, including ministers of energy of SADC member countries, representatives of foreign missions and international organizations in Botswana, and relevant personnel in the energy industry, attended the opening ceremony. During the Energy Week, participants will also participate in high-level plenary meetings, group discussions, and field trips to ensure energy security and promote regional economic growth through knowledge sharing, promoting best practices, and encouraging the development of sustainable energy solutions. The Southern Communist Party has 16 member countries, with its secretariat located in Gaborone. Its purpose is to establish an open economy based on equality, mutual benefit, and balance, break down tariff barriers, promote mutual trade and investment, achieve free movement of people, goods, and services, gradually unify tariffs and currencies, and ultimately achieve regional economic integration.
