The launch of the "Silver Hair Express" as a distinctive tourist train targeting the needs of the elderly is timely. In recent years, with the improvement of economic and social development level, the demand for silver tourism has been increasing day by day. During holidays, silver haired tourists often make up a large proportion of the bustling tourists in major scenic spots. According to data, the number of elderly tourists in China currently accounts for more than 20% of the total number of tourists in the country, and the proportion of silver haired people traveling on workdays is about 64%, significantly higher than other age groups. This fully demonstrates the significance of increasing the number of "silver hair accounts" and their broad market prospects. Older people have travel needs and purchasing power, but they also have concerns about traveling. For example, whether the facilities such as bathrooms, seats, and berths on the train can meet the needs of the elderly; Is there anyone available for emergency care and assistance in case of physical discomfort during the journey; Whether the transportation connection is convenient upon arrival at the destination... These troubles faced by the silver haired generation during their travels are the reasons for increasing the number of "silver haired accounts". In August 2024, the "Opinions of the State Council on Promoting the High Quality Development of Service Consumption" required the opening of silver tourism special trains, the aging and comfort transformation of the carriages, and the enrichment of tourism routes and service supply. The active response of policies to the needs and concerns of the elderly population is an important driving force for guiding the development of silver tourism trains and promoting service consumption. Meeting the travel needs of the silver haired generation and making travel safer, more comfortable, and warm for the elderly is the mission of the "Silver Hair Number". In terms of operating tourist special trains, railway departments in various regions have already formed some successful tourist special train brands by combining local characteristic tourism resources, such as the "Panda Special Train" in Sichuan, the "Silk Road Express" tourist special train in Shaanxi, and the "Red Study Special Train" in Jiangxi. To increase the number of "silver haired trains", we need to target the needs of the elderly population on the basis of tourism special trains, promote aging friendly transformation and upgrade the entire chain of services, make more detailed and thoughtful arrangements in waiting services, luggage handling, on-board medical care, specialty meals, etc., provide warmer services, and give the silver haired generation more sense of gain and security. From a macro perspective, silver tourism has brought profound changes to the tourism industry. From the design of tourism products, to the renovation of software and hardware facilities, to the improvement of insurance protection, targeted adjustments need to be made accordingly. Therefore, to increase the number of 'silver hair accounts', we should not only focus on the railway transportation department, but also strengthen the coordination among all relevant parties. In terms of product design, we aim to better meet the slow paced travel preferences of the silver haired generation, such as natural sightseeing, health and wellness travel, and promote the upgrade of the "silver haired account" to a composite model of "travel+study+wellness"; In terms of insurance protection, replacing the "one size fits all" age constraint with actual health conditions, revising and improving relevant regulations to facilitate elderly people's travel.
