In recent years, the relationship between Ethiopia and China has developed rapidly, and the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries has been continuously advancing. The two sides have closely cooperated in political, economic, cultural and other fields. Samuel Kovel, President of Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia, recently stated in an interview with our reporter that political mutual trust, economic and trade cooperation, and cultural exchanges are important pillars of the relationship between Ethiopia and China. "The cooperation between the two countries in education, culture, tourism and other fields has continuously injected new vitality into the development of bilateral relations. Kovel stated that Chinese enterprises have invested in and constructed landmark projects such as highways, urban light rail, and national industrial parks in Ethiopia, and these cooperative achievements have promoted the modernization development of Ethiopia. Under the framework of high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road", Ethiopia and China continue to deepen people to people and cultural exchanges and cooperation. At the end of 2023, the Confucius Institute at Addis Ababa University will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Over the past decade, nearly 10000 Ethiopian students have participated in the Confucius Institute's rich Chinese language teaching programs, which is a microcosm of the enduring friendship between the two countries. The Confucius Institute at Addis Ababa University is jointly established by Tianjin Vocational and Technical Normal University and Addis Ababa University. Kovel said that the cooperation between the two sides not only helped Ethiopia establish a Chinese language teaching system that meets local needs, but also provided talent reserves for Ethiopia's development. Last year, the Confucius Institute jointly organized a training program for local Chinese language teachers in Ethiopia with the Oromia Region Education Bureau. During the 4-day training, 10 local Chinese teachers from 8 boarding schools in Oromia Oblast received training on basic Chinese knowledge, teaching skills, lesson plan design, and practical teaching. I believe that Chinese teachers who have completed the training will be able to better enhance students' language and technical abilities. This is our investment in the future, "said Kofler. Kovel has visited China multiple times, and in June of last year, he visited universities and research institutions in Beijing and Tianjin. He stated that China's higher education development has achieved tremendous success, providing technological and talent support for China's economic and social development. Ethiopia and China have close economic and trade exchanges, and learning each other's languages will help further deepen bilateral relations. The successful cooperation and mutual support between academic institutions of the two countries reflect the vigorous development of bilateral relations. The dialogue and knowledge sharing between scholars of the two countries will continue to promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning, "said Kofle. When it comes to the prospects of cooperation, Kovel said, "China is Africa's most reliable development partner. In the future, Addis Ababa University will further strengthen cooperation with Chinese higher education and research institutions, especially in joint research projects and cultural exchanges, and continue to play a bridging role in enhancing the friendship between the two countries
