Red Film Screening Team Established in Shushan District, Hefei City, Anhui Province

During the winter vacation, students watched the red film "Shining Military Horn" in the auditorium of Mount Huangshan Road Primary School in Hefei, Anhui Province. This is a scene where the "Rongyao Shushan" Red Film Screening Team from Shushan District of the city enters the campus to screen red films and promote the spirit of red. In August 2024, the People's Armed Forces Department of Shushan District, the Veterans Affairs Bureau, and the Party branch of the local film company jointly established the Red Film Screening Team, consisting of retired soldiers and volunteers for the Double Support Work. When it comes to the original intention of establishing the Red Film Projection Team, Captain Xia Dongdong said, "I once served in a certain detachment of the Anhui Armed Police Corps. In the detachment's honor room, there was a bent shoulder pole. I remember when we first arrived at the unit, the new recruit squad leader told us the story behind this shoulder pole." In the 1970s, the film projectionist of the predecessor unit of the detachment used a shoulder pole to lift projectors and film films, walked on bumpy and muddy dirt roads, and played red films for soldiers and local residents stationed in remote mountainous areas. The nickname "shoulder pole film team" spread throughout the shores of Chaohu Lake. The film group was rated as exemplary organization by the Anhui Armed Police Corps for seven times, and won the third class collective merit for six consecutive years, and the second class collective merit in 2000. During his military service, Xia Dongdong took over this curved pole and became the 10th leader of the "Pole Film Group". Times are changing, positions are changing, but the original intention of serving the people has not changed. After retiring, Xia Dongdong heard some elderly people say during a community organized movie watching event that when they were young, the village often screened outdoor movies. At that time, everyone sat together, discussing the plot of the movie and sharing heroic stories, which was very lively. Nowadays, due to limited mobility and restricted locations, it is difficult to watch a red movie regularly, which is regrettable. Upon hearing the words of the elderly, Xia Dongdong conceived the idea of establishing a mobile film screening team. At a military civilian symposium, Xia Dongdong formally proposed the establishment of a red film screening team. Unexpectedly, some people raised objections: "With the popularity of the internet now, is it still necessary to establish a film screening team?" "Most of the red movies are old, and the audience still likes to watch them." "Red classics will never go out of style. As a former member of the 'Shoulder Pole Film Group', I hope to use my skills to do something within my power for the dissemination of red movies." At the meeting, Xia Dongdong's words were recognized by everyone. Next, relevant military and civilian departments will closely cooperate and demonstrate their respective capabilities: the People's Armed Forces Department of Shushan District will fully mobilize the militia to actively sign up and build a strong team of projectionists; The Veterans Affairs Bureau of Shushan District coordinated with townships, streets, and primary and secondary schools in the jurisdiction to set up stages for screenings, and contacted professional film companies to provide screening equipment and film resources for the screening team... "It's been many years since I last watched an outdoor movie, and now I have the taste of my childhood again." "It's great to see the latest movies right at my doorstep." "Young man, when will I come to show them next time?"... Every time I hear these emotions and praises during a movie screening, the screening team feels relieved. Since the establishment of the "Rongyao Shushan" Red Film Screening Team, members have successively entered various towns, streets (communities), stationed troops, schools, enterprises and institutions in Shushan District to screen, serving nearly 10000 active duty officers and soldiers, retired soldiers and other preferential treatment objects, and residents, promoting the dissemination of red classics to more people.
