Small services promote the well-being of the people

Set up a simple wooden table, arrange brochures and registration books, and loop the latest medical insurance policies through the speakers. Early in the morning, at the intersection of Nanchun Road in Chunhui Community, Huinong District, Shizuishan City, Ningxia, the community mobile office opened. In no time, the first resident Liu Suqin arrived at the mobile office. "Can you help my mom with the elderly care certification? She has limited mobility and cannot walk long distances," said community cadre Liu Fang with a smile. She took her phone and skillfully operated it, completing the certification in a few minutes. Chunhui Community is one of the largest communities in Huinong District, covering more than 30 residential areas and over 6000 residents, with middle-aged and elderly residents accounting for nearly 40%. In the past, going to the community to do business had to pass through half of the area, and it was even more inconvenient in rainy and snowy weather. Some elderly people are afraid of trouble and simply procrastinate, resulting in delays in receiving subsidies, "Liu Fang admitted. Although they are at the grassroots level, community cadres still need to frequently visit residents in order to have a more intuitive understanding of their thoughts and concerns, and to promptly address their urgent difficulties and worries. In early 2023, Chunhui Community launched a "mobile office desk". Every Friday, community officials drive tricycles carrying tables, chairs, horns, and homemade convenience service strips, taking turns setting up stalls at the entrances and exits of more than 30 residential areas to deliver services to residents downstairs. In the bungalow area of Nanhai Hutong in Chunhui Community, an alley was blocked by a wall of unknown ownership for 40 years. Every rainstorm, water accumulated over the knee and poured into residents' homes. The community held a "bench meeting" at the mobile office site, inviting relevant leaders and enthusiastic residents to discuss together. Quickly, the clarification of ownership, removal of walls, and hardening of road surfaces were carried out in one go, completely breaking through the "roadblock". Everyone said, 'This wall wasn't demolished with bricks, it was a knot in the heart.' Recalling the past, Liu Fang couldn't hide her excitement. Previously, young people thought that the community was a 'place where aunties knit sweaters', but now they are all rushing to wear red vests as volunteers Liu Fang said. Nowadays, "mobile desks" are no longer the "one-man show" of community cadres. 104 volunteers, including party members, retired soldiers, building managers, and students, have joined the service team. Last year, Chunhui Community handled over 300 practical matters related to people's livelihood, and the resolution rate of conflicts and disputes increased by 30%, which is twice as much as in previous years. As the sun set, the community officials who had closed their stalls drove their tricycles back. In addition to tables and chairs, there were also several citrus fruits stuffed in by residents. Small services promote the well-being of the people. A wooden table and two chairs, seemingly simple configurations, have pried the "last mile" of grassroots governance. This table is not only a "converter" for policy implementation, but also a "glue" for connecting the hearts of the masses. The key to providing people's livelihood services lies not in the high-end hardware, but in the down-to-earth sincerity. Community cadres should take more practical measures that are close to the people and benefit the people. By bending down and focusing more on facilitating the masses and providing more detailed services, they can enhance the cohesion of the community and promote the formation of a social governance pattern of co construction, co governance, and sharing.
