On the 13th, the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government held a ceremony to award certificates to 49 mediators in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. On December 30, 2024, the legal departments of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao released a unified "List of Mediators in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (2024)" online. There are a total of 146 mediators from Hong Kong, Guangdong, and Macao, including 49 from Hong Kong. It is reported that the list is determined by the Joint Meeting of Legal Departments of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area after local evaluation and consideration by the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Mediation Working Committee by the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Justice, and the Administrative Justice Department of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government. The Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Lin Dingguo, delivered a speech saying that Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have taken into account the characteristics of their respective mediation systems at the joint conference, transforming "differences in systems" into "benefits of systems", and have passed and issued a series of unified rules. These rules, as common mediation standards applicable to the three regions, have laid the institutional foundation for promoting the widespread application of mediation in the Greater Bay Area. Zhang Guojun, Deputy Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, stated that Hong Kong has always been in a leading position in mediation, and mainland courts introduced Hong Kong mediators to mediate cases last year. He hopes that mediators will continue to demonstrate their professional skills in the future, expand their business in the Greater Bay Area, and promote the construction of the rule of law in the Greater Bay Area.
