Xizang Dingri earthquake rescue and rehabilitation work carried out in an orderly manner

Since the 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Dingri, Tibet, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, relevant localities and departments have responded swiftly and implemented various measures in a detailed and practical manner. Currently, the earthquake relief work is progressing in an orderly fashion, and all parties continue to carry out rescue and post-disaster work to ensure that the affected people can stay safe and warm through the winter.

The press conference on the earthquake relief work in Dingri, Tibet, revealed that as of 6 a.m. on the 9th, the earthquake had caused 126 deaths and approximately 61,500 people were affected. Over the past few days, more than 15,000 people from the national comprehensive fire and rescue teams, the People's Liberation Army, the armed police forces, the public security police, and social emergency rescue forces have been conducting search and rescue operations in the epicenter area. A total of 224 resettlement sites have been set up in the affected areas, with over 12,000 tents erected to accommodate 47,500 affected people. More than 12,000 heaters, over 3,000 electric blankets and other supplies have been continuously transported and distributed. At present, with the help of all sectors of society, the supply of relief supplies is sufficient and the basic living needs of the people are guaranteed. After all-out efforts in emergency repairs, power and communications in the affected areas have basically been restored, national and provincial trunk roads have all been reopened, damaged rural roads have returned to normal traffic, and railway services between Lhasa and Shigatse have resumed operation.

It is reported that medical institutions at all levels have cumulatively admitted 337 injured people, and 246 of them have been discharged after treatment. To ensure that the injured can receive proper treatment, medical treatment experts at all levels have conducted individual consultations for all the injured in Shigatse City and formulated treatment plans on a “one-person-one-policy” basis. Joint epidemic prevention teams have gone to the epicenter area to carry out sanitation and security work. The Tibet Entry-Exit Border Inspection General Station has dispatched medical orderlies to provide medical treatment for the affected people at temporary resettlement sites.

On the 9th, the Office of the National Committee for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief and the Ministry of Emergency Management, in conjunction with the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, coordinated and provided assistance of 10,000 tons of biomass fuels such as biomass pellets and 5,000 emergency lighting lamps through the government-society collaborative guarantee mechanism for emergency supplies. The two batches of central disaster relief supplies allocated previously have all been delivered to the disaster area.

The prefabricated houses for assisting the disaster area have been loaded and shipped. Freight special trains have been opened in Sichuan and other places to transport them to the disaster area at the fastest speed.(Outlook New Era)
