Classmates, this is the People's Daily that I collected on December 17, 1950. The article "Fighting by the Battle of Changjin Lake" published on it tells the story of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army soldiers who fought bravely on the battlefield of the Korean War... "Recently, in the fifth grade classroom of Chengguang Elementary School in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, retired soldier Sun Kaizheng told students the story of the Battle of Changjin Lake. Retired soldiers are an important force in carrying out national defense education. We must continue to carry forward the glorious tradition of the military, maintain the true colors of soldiers, and contribute to national defense education for all Sun Kai said. In 2024, as a member of the "Retired Veterans National Defense Education Lecturer Team" in Anshan City, Sun Kai taught national defense education courses to primary and secondary school students more than 50 times. He not only lectures at primary, secondary, and tertiary schools in Anshan City, but also frequently participates in national defense education related activities in other places, and has been hired as an off campus counselor by Mao Anying School in Dandong City. In Anshan City, there are still many retired soldiers like Sun Kai who volunteer to devote themselves to national defense education. In 2016, after retiring from a certain army unit, Song Yongkui actively utilized his personal strengths and voluntarily taught national defense education courses for primary and secondary school students. During his time in the military, Song Yongkui was awarded the title of "Excellent Political Instructor of the 'Four Meetings' of the Whole Army". During his service, he participated in the Liaoning Provincial Defense Education Theme Speech and won first place. He was awarded the Second Class Merit once and the Third Class Merit six times. His lectures are lively, interesting, and easy to understand, and are highly welcomed by students. He also led the establishment of the "Retired Soldiers Learn from Lei Feng Volunteer Service Team" in Anshan City, mobilizing more retired soldiers to participate in national defense public welfare undertakings. Before retiring, Yang Qingyong served as the Chief of Staff of a certain armed police unit and won gold and silver medals in military competitions multiple times. Upon learning of the establishment of the "Lei Feng Volunteer Service Team for Retired Soldiers" and the urgent need for national defense education teachers, he voluntarily applied to join. Yang Qingyong served as a battalion and company commander in the army, with excellent military qualities and rich teaching experience, quickly becoming a role model in the hearts of students. Once, Yang Qingyong was invited to teach Xinjiang vocational school students at Anshan Iron and Steel School. Upon learning that most of the students in this class are Uyghur, he specifically studied Uyghur language daily expressions during lesson preparation. Entering the classroom, he greeted the students in Uyghur language and quickly brought them closer together. During the lecture, he shared his story of growing from an ordinary youth to a training elite and winning multiple championships in martial arts competitions, which won warm applause. After class, a student named Parhati took the initiative to ask for Yang Qingyong's phone number. Not long after, he called Yang Qingyong and expressed his desire to join the army. Encouraged by Yang Qingyong, Parhati joined the army and came to a certain unit on the plateau. Due to outstanding work performance, Parhati was awarded the title of "Four Haves" excellent soldier, selected as a sergeant, and honored to join the party. In recent years, relevant military and civilian departments in Anshan City have taken this opportunity to focus on leveraging the advantages of retired soldiers, relying on the "Retired Soldiers Learn from Lei Feng Volunteer Service Team" to establish the "Retired Veterans National Defense Education Lecturer Team", and striving to build a professional national defense education teacher team, ensuring that each school has at least one "soldier teacher" to convey the "good voice" of national defense and be a "guide" for students' growth. They also coordinate with nationally designated assessment and certification agencies to assess and certify retired military personnel engaged in campus national defense education, ensuring that all "military teachers" are certified to work. Those who give a spark to others must have a torch in their heart. Since 2016, the "Retired Veterans National Defense Education Lecturer Team" in the city has completed over 300000 national defense education lectures and military expansion training, receiving widespread praise from teachers and students in the school. Liu Xu, the principal of Anshan No.6 Middle School, said, "Excellent retired soldiers entering the school to carry out national defense education lectures not only strengthen students' national defense awareness and cultivate their patriotism, but also educate and guide them to establish correct worldviews, outlooks on life, and values, inspiring students' sense of responsibility and mission
