The results of China's fifth national economic census were announced to the public on the 26th. Through this major national survey conducted every five years, China has been able to gain a clear understanding of its economic situation. On the same day, Kang Yi, Director of the National Bureau of Statistics, introduced that compared with the results of the Fourth National Economic Census, China's economic development has shown many positive changes in terms of scale, structural optimization, innovation driven, security guarantee, and green transformation. Stronger foundation: Significant improvement in comprehensive national strength. In the past five years, facing profound and complex changes in the international environment and the huge impact of the epidemic, China has carried out scientific and effective macroeconomic regulation, and its comprehensive national strength has significantly improved. After the census, China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2023 has approached 130 trillion yuan (RMB), and its economic output remains the world's second largest. Over the past five years, China's contribution to global economic growth has averaged around 30%, making it the largest source of growth for global economic development. The census results show that by the end of 2023, the number of legal entities in China's secondary and tertiary industries will increase by 52.7% compared to the end of 2018, and the total assets of legal entities will increase by 57.4%, further consolidating the foundation for industrial development. Better structure: The number of service industry operators has significantly increased. In the past five years, the trend of China's industrial upgrading and development has not changed, and the coordination of regional development continues to improve. Especially with the significant increase in service industry operators, it has become an important force supporting economic growth and promoting high-quality employment. In 2023, the added value of the tertiary industry will account for 56.3% of China's GDP, an increase of more than 2 percentage points from 2018. In 2023, the number of invention patent applications by legal entities of industrial enterprises above designated size increased by 65.1% compared to 2018. These technological achievements are accelerating their transformation into real productivity, and through the large-scale application of new technologies and processes, they are giving birth to numerous new industries and formats. By the end of 2023, the number of enterprises above designated size engaged in strategic emerging industry activities nationwide will reach 158000, accounting for more than one-fifth of all industrial and service industries above designated size. Among them, the rapid development of new retail formats represented by no stores has led to a 137% increase in revenue in 2023 compared to 2018, making it the fastest-growing industry in the retail sector; The scale of the online retail market continued to expand, and the Internet retail industry performed well, with the operating revenue increasing by 186%. In the past five years, China's industrial and supply chains have steadily improved in terms of autonomy and controllability, and its ability to ensure energy supply has been strengthened. The key core technology research and development has increased, and the safe and reliable domestic production and supply system has been further improved. In 2023, the added value scale of China's manufacturing industry has ranked first in the world for 14 consecutive years, and the production of integrated circuits, industrial mother machines, and other products has grown rapidly. The energy supply is sufficient. By 2023, the production of raw coal will reach 4.72 billion tons, the production of crude oil will reach 210 million tons, and the power generation will reach 9.5 trillion kilowatt hours. Better sustainability: New energy has gradually become an advantageous industry. In 2023, China's new energy vehicle production reached 9.458 million units, an increase of 6.9 times compared to 2018, ranking first in the world for nine consecutive years and accounting for over 60% of the global total. At the same time, green production and lifestyle have gradually become a consensus in China. In 2023, the production of solar cells (photovoltaic cells) and wind turbines in China will reach 650 million kilowatts and 140 million kilowatts respectively, an increase of 4.9 times and 7.4 times compared to 2018.
